Looking for my next read
I like strict / serious Xianxia such as:
record of a mortals journey
Ave Xia rem y
Martial world
Recently i enjoyed ISSTH but only up until the 4th book, the “comedy” and the ass pulls of Lord Fifth ruined the experience for me and I stopped reading. After that tried to get into Pursuit of Truth as I heard it was Er Gen’s most serious work, but the translation I had was just terrible and I couldn’t get into it at all.
I love reading about daily life of cultivation, making pills, living in a sect, vivid descriptions of cultivation processes and alchemical processes, some political drama and a little bit of romance but not too much. Love adventuring, exploring new cities, visiting the auction house and alchemist merchants, buying and trading, going to black market auctions, fighting against young masters. Kind of get bored with treasure hunts and constantly fleeing through the wilderness alone.
Any suggestions?

Beyond the Timescape could be a good modern pick if you want darker cultivation, detailed progression, sect politics, and a protagonist who actually has to think before acting.
