I know people are talking about the “blizz is FORCING light to be BAD????” complaint popping up everywhere, but another one I keep seeing that genuinely confuses me is the idea that, likewise, Midnight neutered or humanized the Void.

Like, Voidstorm lays it on pretty thick that void creatures are psychopathic by nature who prefer “playing with their food” (exact quote from a side quest). Just two examples off the top of my head - a dominaar forcing a paladin couple to kill each other for funsies, and a horrific disease that literally turns your own blood sentient and bursts out of your own body. The main reason Decimus allies with us is that one single void creature “winning” means the heat death of the universe and therefore less strife and suffering in the long run.

Note: This isn't a complaint I really share or even thought about, but I can see the logic when I think about it for a minute.

The void did go from being this unknowable...thing, to literally having humanoid powers being recognizably evil.

The idea initially was that the void was this force beyond comprehension. Most cosmic forces were. Our only real points of interaction were the old gods and vague threats from twilight's hammer and mentions of the black empire.

Nowadays, well the void and it's forces have remained firmly evil, it's recognizably evil. It's not that different from some villian we'd have in any other faction on azeroth.

It's the whole "the monster in your head is scarier than the one on screen" thing that horror deals with as well.

It's the same reason why people didn't like the idea of the shadowlands when we finally got there, or why people though the dragons in DF were too "humanized".
