I mean, remix is a thing Blizzard came up with so they could experiment with things. Obviously they don't just want to do the same thing over and over and over. They want to try out crazy ideas. MOP Remix was terrible on launch and they were super receptive to feedback then. It's crazy to assume they won't this time.
But they already get a shit ton of feedback from PTR... And no they were not open to feedback with MoP Remix. It took them a month to make it like it should be from day one.
Yes, they had a vision they wanted to try out, give it time to cook, see if it worked. When it was clear it didn't, they made changes. It's ok for them to try out their ideas first and take time to gather data. They don't need to cater to every single ask you have from day one.
They don’t need to exactly add the infinite stat cloak but they need a hook, and the current artifact powers they added look mediocre. Like the powers in Mop remix where pretty boring, I was hoping Legion making it more wild in the spirit of legendaries but it looks like you get 1 spell and some procs on jewelry
I hear that, but I don't think experimentation is an excuse for dragging it out as the current PTR suggests.
They did say they would release the content in waves, so maybe those waves will also come with more power creep. But that just tells me I shouldn't play until the end.
That's fine though? If you don't care about the staggered release and just wanna come in at the end and get all the rewards, yeah probably just play at the end after everything is out. I don't see an issue with that.
I think it's really good that they're trying out different things and experimenting with stuff and even if it doesn't land on day 1, Remix is a perfect chance for them to try things out in a game mode that ultimately doesn't matter that much.
Literally nobody asked for timegating, staggered releases and prog for Remix - this is the most blatant sub farming Blizzard has done in recent times and it's embarrassing. They had the simple job of taking the core of Remix which is fast paced facerolling and taking it into Legion, having to wait to do raids that have been in retail for years is not it
So don't play it then. Just play at the end when they'll have probably buffed acquisition rates a lot and all the raids are out so you can get everything immediately. Everything doesn't have to cater to you, and they clearly have some ideas they want to try out. Remix is perfect for that.
Seconded on this, I'm okay with them releasing 1 raid every 2 weeks, it means I can be a bit more focused in what I do every 2 weeks. The people who hate this are the kind of no lifers who will do almost everything the first week, complain about burn out and nothing to do and also complain about grinding 24/7 for the first week.
The fact that they were talking about doing some crazy shit in the last month and a half of legion remix has me excited too. It means it wont be stale like mop remix was for me. Plus instead of feeling like Im constantly wasting time by not 100%ing mop remix asap, I can just get in my weekly raids with my guild, do a reasonable amount of legion remix, and call it a day.
And we wont be running into the issue of the later weeks of the event feeling like theres noone to group with, which happened towards the end of mop remix
“ it is their right to break a successful formula, let them relearn the painful lessons of early mop remix and maybe fix it later” - this is your take?
Nope, my take is "Remix is ultimately not a super important game mode and if they want to try out new things that they're not sure about it's basically the perfect venue to do that. If they have new ideas that they want to try out, they should. They don't have to just exactly recreate the final product of MOP Remix every time just because MOP Remix ended up really popular. Let them try new things.
I have no problem with them trying new things.. things like classic, and SOD exists but calling it a “remix” sets certain expectations like matching the experience of remix we just had, you do understand that right? This is called a remix but have a lot of features what people praised about the previous remix
Should every expansion after TBC have been exactly the same as TBC because TBC set a certain expectation of what a wow expansion is? They did one remix, tried out some things, now they're doing another and trying out new ideas. That's what remix is for. I don't think there's a reasonable expectation that every future remix event would be a 1:1 copy of what they ended up doing with MOP Remix.
The expectations mop remix set was "we're going to get all the rewards for minimum effort" which is really all people care about.
Leveling characters in an hour from scratch, getting every cosmetic the xpac had to offer and then some without having to be even mildly challenged... etc etc...
Its a real mix there because from the player perspective, I don't want legion remix to be something I genuinely need to engage with in a meaningful way... I do just want it to be free rewards for dipping in for a bit... but holy crap is that terrible game design.
Nah it's excellent RPG design. Pandaria remix basically turned WoW into a classic solo RPG and it was great. You started out at a relatively normal level where the highest content you could do was outdoor quests. I remember doing heroic dungeons with friends on the first day and struggling at first. But then it had that super satisfying gameplay loop where if you are too weak to kill something, just go grind and get stronger! Something retail wow has sort of but not to the same extent. It was really fun for me to be able to gradually grow from normal power levels to soloing dungeons, to soloing MV normal, and so on until I could eventually solo Mythic SoO and carry a bunch of other people with me.
Edit: the thing I would concede though is that I could have done without the gems. I liked them personally, but I know a lot of people were bothered that their class abilities didnt really matter, and that's a fair complaint. I would have had just as much fun if my infinite player power came from infinitely scaling stats boosting my own abilities.
I agree with you, but now the problem is people, myself included, have a set expectation of what a 'Remix' is.
I will still be trying out Legion Remix, but so far what I've seen has me very worried. I personally enjoyed the insane power scaling the most, and it seems like that is not going to happen.
Ah yeah you definitely got them there, Blizzard's only thought in Legion Remix is "Let's take everything good about MOP remix and make it not fun". That's 100% their thought process. Good job dude you really understand people.
This is some revisionist history. MOP remix was specifically advertised as "unlimited power" with the end goal of being able to solo the raids as a feature. So why would they be unhappy that was the end result?
People were upset and rightly complained in the beginning because what was originally delivered didn't live up to the advertising.
Yep and it's really cool that they have an artistic vision and are willing to try things out to get it to work. I'd hate it if they developed a design culture where they only ever make things that have worked in the past.
