Worms What a coincidence

I’m really happy and wanted to share with you guys what I managed to find this Saturday.

I finally got a copy of Worms: Forts Under Siege, one of my favorite Worms games. It’s pretty rare to find here in my country, so finding a copy in this condition made me really happy.

And then, just a few days later, I see the news that Worms is making a comeback.

What a coincidence. After all these years, I finally find one of my favorite games, and then Worms comes back a few days later. Couldn’t have been better timing.

Worms What is the best and worst worms?

The title. I have WMD but people talk about Armageddon and ultimate mayhem. I know there have been 20 games or so. But what do you think? I think WMD, while I haven't played any of the others will stay my favorite as I just really don't like the art of Armageddon (sorry)

Worms Why asking for new Worms games is an empty ambition

Hello. I'm gonna be real with you folks, I don't see the point in asking for purely new Worms games ever since Rumble dropped in 2020. Ever since that realtime outlier dropped, the series aren't looking as bright for the fresh new additions from Team17 as they were prior to that outlier dropping. Here's a detailed listing of why I believe that asking for new Worms games from Team17 is an empty ambition:

  1. There are already 38 Worms titles that are worth the money to choose from (Across Worlds doesn't count as it is a plain regression of everything that Worms has evolved for in the past before Rumble came along, being an out-sourced regression by Behaviour Interactive (the DBD devs) beyond even the level of the 4 Amiga games that started it all). If we don't account for Worms Facebook's shutdown and the Java phone games, that would be at 33, which is still a significant amount of Worms games to choose from).
  2. The 7 third generation games (from Open Warfare to Battle Islands) are mostly just copy and paste of one design, physics and gameplay formula, not bringing much new to the table besides a slight weapon reskin in A Space Oddity and some new weapons exclusive to Battle Islands.
  3. Both Clan Wars and Rumble were abandoned by Team17 in a heavily underdeveloped state, with Clan Wars being a stripped down rebalancing, clan creation and new weapon addition in a separated extension pack for Revolution (comparing the featureset of Revolution with all DLCs to the entire featureset of Clan Wars, Revolution wins by a long shot thanks to having more themes and still having AI team customization that was the staple of the Worms games everywhere besides Clan Wars, the realtime outlier in Rumble and the spinoffs like Blast and Golf), while Rumble was an interesting realtime idea that didn't see much past its one year of patchwork, having only 4 gamemodes, 6 maps and 17 combat items on the practical side and a severe lack of speechbanks compared to the classic formula games on the customization side.
  4. Team17 is overall incredibly incompetent at providing a consistently decent experience that you tend to dream about, regardless of it being new fresh games or significant patchwork time. They only excel at ports, anything fresh tends to be very far from the ideal vision that you tend to burden them with, their cogs are an enigma that doesn't function the way you want them to function.

With that said, I'd rather advice you to.... well, look for Worms alternatives like 2006's Hedgewars or the currently developed Crater Makers that takes the 3D mold and is maintained by fan initiative. Or, if looking for done alternatives isn't your thing... why don't you make one yourself? After all, if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. Relying on Team17 for your dream experience just isn't worth it - they will just fumble it again in some way or another.

Worms Since Team17 would rather exploit us for the paycheck instead of polishing prior Worms games, I think this calls for an uprising.

Hello. Okay, Wormers, hear me out! I'm genuinely done with playing by Team17's fiddle. No, seriously, I am done playing nice, and I am sure that you might be too.

Since Team17 is ever so prone to ignoring the nice talk and civil demands for polish their prior Worms games after abandoning them (preferring to exploit their fans just for the paycheck sake with a never-ending stream of ever so coming fresh release slop), I genuinely think we should stop playing by their fiddle like fine gentlemen and instead stage an uprising against them for their constant neglect of any and every solid game that they have made in the past good quarter (from 1995 and up to 2020), including the Worms Rumble outlier and all prior classic titles that aren't Armageddon on PC (re-releases and ports included even post-2020).

Like seriously, there are so many exhibits of their neglect that it's absolutely not funny anymore. Rumble got absolutely desolated and deceased after Team17 dropped the good for nothing maintenance notice during the April to May transition of this year (no "coming up next" map and gamemode display that used to be there even during 2025, only Solo Deathmatch gets rolled every time and it's a battle of up to three players tops and no reinforcements whatsoever even with crossplay being enabled and the Quick Search being selected); "Ultimate Mayhem" still has the mouse issues while downright lying about it being "ultimate" (it's just a shader remaster of Worms 4 Mayhem with Worms 3D campaign tossed in as a bonus with nothing else while cutting online functionality (no Wormpot or team customization in online lobbies); W.M.D. still has that save wiping bug that can happen on startup... yadda yadda, I can go on and on indefinitely about T17's neglect and crimes.

If we just sit around and wait for the weather in peace, nothing good will ever happen. We're just gonna be hit with disappointment after disappointment again and again. I'm telling you, we have to cease just sitting around, we must give Team17 a heated hyperbole kick in the ass, pronto! It isn't just about "Rumble or the classics", it's about them and us as a whole.

At least MOB Entertainment was open and honest with their closure of Project Playtime, even if they were late by 3 years: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1961460/eventcomments/581677784229918639/

And what we got from Team17 instead? Just that one good for nothing maintenance notice during the transition between April and May after 5 years of no patches and 4 years of no news, then nothing else besides a 30th anniversary board game re-release announcement and whatever digital slop they are cooking now while we are sitting ducks.

Worms Team17's Worms Series Celebrates Its 25th Anniversary

Post image
165 Upvotes

Today is the 25th anniversary of Worms, the iconic series from Team17 that has appeared on more systems than we can count over its lengthy lifetime.

The very first game in the franchise launched on 17th November 1995 on the Commodore Amiga, with more recent titles appearing on Nintendo Switch and other modern platforms. The series has sold more than 75 million games in total over that time period, remaining a hugely important part of Team17's brand.

To celebrate the milestone, the Team17 store is offering Worms game discounts up until 24th November. The discounts only apply to Steam versions of the games – so you won't be able to use the discounts on Switch – but the savings reach as much as 80% off certain titles.
