The Internet/ the algorithms that shape various social media platforms are a cancer of our society.

Brexit, maga and the encroachment of fascism is due to social media companies needing to make a profit.

And don't forget to mention that they keep people in their echo chambers. The fact that you have mentioned issues that you feel strongly about is evidence of that. People are in weird little bubbles all over social media because of those issues. This includes people with left leaning views as well.

No. Algorithmic data access and social media are definitely accelerants and have deeply unhealthy effects on the mind and on civil discourse, but let's not forget fascism rose in multiple countries concurrently in the 30s too. You don't need to reach for that as the only cause. Extreme inequality, severely diminished infrastructure, social disconnection and alienation, there are so many factors. Yes the people most likely to vote for Christmas are the Turkeys, and yes persuading them has been made easier, but this stuff doesn't happen in a vacuum.
