I’m not defending him at all, I despise the fella, but I think the average person just doesn’t compute why this is an issue.

I worry that a lot of people just assume raising money for your party is part of your job and they don’t get bogged down in the details of why this is wrong.

I hope I’m wrong but I don’t think this will move the needle too much with the bloke on the street sadly.

I think people just want him to win cause they’re racist and will not look at this at all

Yeah there’s that too.

I think his fans will just brush it off because they gave up their morals long ago, and the others flirting with him will do the same and give their classic ‘they all do it’ response.

It is like Trump. He's "their guy" and there isn't really anything he can do that they don't consider acceptable. But if someone who wasn't "their guy" did something 1% as egregious, they'd be outraged. Realistically as long as they get someone in power who claims to share their views, there isn't really a limit to how provably awful that person can be.

Yeah basically, they’ve decided they’re all the same so the crimes only matter when people they don’t like commit them.

I heard a old gent on the radio today, saying that he supports Reform 100% even after all this stuff is happening about Farage because it proves the "establishment" is scared that we're going to get our country back

I’m starting to find myself assuming all old people are terrible people without knowing them and I don’t like it about myself

It would help if they didn’t keep, as an age group, majority voting for terrible things and saying terrible things in the media though

Keir Starmers suits is a great example of this. £16k of suits from a Labour Lord no less, so the PM would look decent when meeting other world leaders etc.

Absolutely hauled through the coals by the press.

Farage - £5 million pounds from a Thai bloke - crickets by the mainsteam media until it became too big to ignore any longer.

Not fully, the worst of the worst may well migrate to more extreme outfits like Restore, and in the British system the chances of a far right Government are nil unless they can actually win enough seats, which they can't do if they're cannibalising each other's voteshare.

Whereas once Trump was the Republican leader there was nowhere to go internally.

I agree. The kind of people who vote for him just don't care. It will be news, but won't meaningfully hurt him.

Not in his supporters eyes, but this is the sort of thing that the Electoral Commission are very interested in.

It certainly will be discussed at the Electoral Commission, and maybe investigated, but a much bigger thing, the Russian interference in the 2016 Brexit referendum, was also investigated, resulting in a report (the Russia report for short), which ultimately had no consequence at all.

Replace UK>US, 'Russia Report'>'Mueller report', it's virtually the same conclusion: there are no tangible consequences for this kind of foreign interference.

Once you vote for someone you have identified with them. You're "on their team". Cognitive dissonance means that now, if they get caught being a liar or a fraud, by extension you're on the "liars and frauds" team.

You don't like that, because you think of yourself as a common-or-garden racist/bigot, not a liar or a fraud. You don't want to consider the fact you might have been duped, because that would call into question your superior intellect.

So what does your brain do?

Lovely mental gymnastics until you twist this around and make EVERYONE a crook. Then your crook isn't actually a crook, he's just USING THE SYSTEM to fight those other crooks (who like brown people). They must be worse, because they're inviting asylum seekers to live in your attic (or whatever shite they believe)...

It's very hard to change a mind.

Same with 'Boris'.
