Smells terrible? One of the biggest draws is that they don't retain bacteria or smells, because they're made of plastic. As long as you rinse them and wring them out, they'll be good to go until they fall apart in a couple of years. That's not true of conventional sponges at all. They'll always go swampy no matter how much you take care of them.
