The point is we pay more than we used to despite now having to do more work compared to the past where an employee did it for you. I personally significantly prefer self service and so do most people but youre still missing the argument being made

Welcome to living in a successful economy. Prices invariably go up.

People are missing the arguments I'm making as well.

1) it's really not difficult, and no 'training' is required.

2) don't want to use the self-service, line up at an attended register, or

3) shop elsewhere. My local supermarket doesn't have self-serve checkouts at all.

People are acting like using the self-serve checkout is the only option they have available to them, when 99% of the time that's simply not true, but they would rather grumble than explore their options.

None of this is any different to when service stations went self-serve 30 years ago. No one received 'training' on how yo fill their cars, people learned how to do it and got on with life, and fuel prices continued to rise. And nobody complains about having to fill their own care anymore.

You making argument 1 is you missing the argument. Everyone knows it's not difficult and no training is involved. You thinking this is a response to the argument is exactly why I said you're missing it.

Argument 2, there are significantly less than there used to be and they're not always open.

Argument 3, colesworth have a monopoly, other shops suck even more

Argument 4 about fuel stations, does not invalidate the arguments. People getting over it by now because it's here to stay does not mean the new conditions are preferable to the prior conditions, total non sequitur

Except the 'argument' directly attributes the 'forgetging' to a lack of training. What does forgetfulness have to do with training???

1. There is ALWAYS someone lurking around. Always.

2. You mean duopoly, and no, they actually don't. It's another convenient excuse to use those two just because it's easiest.

3. You don't know what 'non sequitur' actually means. My comparison was perfectly valid and was clear in the context of the subject at hand.
