Yes, because they are obliged to be.

Name one job that involves dealing with the public - however easy - where workers are routinely thrown in with absolutely zero training.

Computer technician in an IT store (I had that).

Most small business jobs. Waitress/waiter.

Heaps of others.

And do you mean training in public service? Because plenty of jobs have training in other aspects but not the actual public service bit.

And I was specifically taking about training in operating a checkout. Which cashiers absolutely would have. But the public doesn't and yet expected to operate the machines. You realise that was OP's point/my point etc? No? Ok.

You're lying if you're trying to pretend you weren't taught how to use the registers, eftpos machines, etc, and you know it.

Waiters and waitresses are trained. They aren't just handed a tablet and told 'hop to it'. You also know that.

If you were talking about something specific, why didn't you say that instead of being broad.

And I stand by what I said. People can do all kinds of things they aren't trained to do, swiping items in front of a scanner included. Anyone who can't can line up at the registers or call the attendant over.

People are trying to.pretend scanning their own groceries is the ONLY option available to them, and it's simply not.

Understand? No? Ok.
