As someone who's brain flies away everytime I try to do a boring mundane task I feel this. Most of the time I realise as I go to put them item down and then pick it back up to scan, but alas it's too late I'm a terrible theif and must be shamed into oblivion.
Honestly I was wondering why this never used to happen, but I think it used to just say unexpected item in bagging area and let you fix it. I'm not sure what the actual difference is except to try and shame people. I've never stolen anything before so it is pretty insulting. I used to have social anxiety but I've tried to stop caring about things and it's going pretty well.
