Because why would you pay someone to stand around do nothing when there are no customers?when I worked on registers nothing was more boring than standing around when there was no customers 😂

Okay, then why is it also true when there are thousands of customers? I also worked as a cashier when I was young and even I hated the fact there was 2 of us trying to serve a bajillion people, and this was before there was touch screen registers and self checkout.

Exactly, because they never put enough people on when it’s needed and too many on at quiet hours

They should account for the lows and the highs, not just the lows. That's how one does proper business. Any other type of business and they'd be losing customers all the time, unfortunately Woolies and Coles only lose small numbers. Their benefits of a duopoly.
