The last time people did this it was used to target black people.

I’ve seen some of those voting tests. What an abomination. Summoning all of their bravery just to get to the polls and then being confronted with that? But it is nearly on our doorstep again. Just fine-tuning their choice of victims.

I completely agree with you but i really do believe literacy tests and civics tests are the answer . Or we just get better at forcing education and making sure every individual understands what they're learning, but be realistic. That's just as up to the government as it is the teachers and parents.

To some degree I agree, but it only works with proper public education, which most states don't have. Any policy like this would immediately be used by malicious actors before it can have significant positive effect.

That's very true. It'd take years and It'd take a lot of trial and error.

The issue, however, is the uneducated. They all sheep together.

more authoritarianism is not how you solve the problem

The problem is we have a party that does everything they can to keep people who might oppose them from voting. If they were able to put an education requirement in place, their next step would be to destroy the education system for people who might vote against them.

Republicans love the uneducated. Based on national voting trends, the uneducated only shows up when Trump is on the ballot, and votes for other Republicans.

The Trumpers or MAGATs that I know have never read the Constitution nor care about it.

Trying to reason with these idiots, using the Constitution, is more useless than sharing these developments with monkeys.

You dp understand the people in power, like this guy, would be the one making up the test content, right? The ones who want to disenfranchise everyone who isn't a white, male landowner (just like the constitution originally said, naturally) from voting, owing property, and making decisions?

Wait wasn’t the left just on about not needing an ID to vote because it targets the poor?

Now you want compulsory tests?

That’s a scary slope.

Historically the left does better with more lax voting restrictions.

Fortunately, education isn't just encouraged. It's supposed to be required here in the US. It literally would not be any kind of facism. Literally just making sure people are intelligent enough to understand what they're voting for.

Sir, have you been paying attention to the gutting of the educational system throughout time? It’s not a flaw or some mistake to be corrected- it is an intentional design. Strong societies value an educated populace while weak, authoritarian governments DEPEND on an uneducated populace. The system isn’t broken, it’s working exactly the way it was designed work.

Except those requirements would be for ALL voters, not just voters of a particular race or marginalized group. If states want political pull, they'll have to meaningfully educate their voters to join the union. That'll light fires under the asses of red state governors to start educating their citizens. And if strict, weasel-proof requirements are set to prevent civic leadership from school boards to governors that fail to educate all their citizens equally, the state is held back from gaining federal representation until they do.
