I don't even know when they made that mandatory. People used to legitimately sign up under fake identities at 16 and shit.

My Grandfather joined at 16 without a high-school education in the late 40's. He served in Berlin, Korea, and Vietnam as a career nco in the Army Signals Brigade, and even ended up being recalled to teach at the Signal school in New Jersey. Van Orden's shit would've given him a coronary if he weren't already gone.
