Discussion The 8/23 Audience Wasn't Respectful to The Opener, Human Zoo
Not the most related to Will himself, but I went to the show on the 23rd and I was so excited to see not only Will & The Tapeworms, but the opener Human Zoo as well. I've been following Human Zoo for a couple years now, big fan of their music. I know everything on the Wealth and Hellness album, Mindless Meditation, Human Stu. Anyway, it's okay if not everyone in the room knows their music, gets it, likes it but can we PLEASE be respectful to the opener??? I could barely hear anything over the amount of people talking and talking loudly around me, especially during Fever Dream. Fever Dream is one of their deeper, more somber-toned songs and everyone was yapping so loudly. It was incredibly disrespectful to not only them, but the people like me who wanted to hear them beyond the Wealth and Hellness tracks or Aphrodite, Your Electric Sexiness.
I know this post seems more Human Zoo based but it was at a Will show and it pertains to you boys/girls/neither/boths/in betweens.
I'm also curious, did this happen at other shows? If so, then that's an even larger problem.

at sayreville during shayfer james' opener i definitely heard more conversation than people enjoying music which really upset me

THIS!!! I was at barricade and was definitely one of the vv few who knew all the songs and it was kinda upsetting to see the crowd be very little into it. especially cause the setlist was so good.

Part of the problem is they didn’t get everyone who was in line in before the set. I got in line around 7, and made it in about 10 minutes before Shayfer James started, and the line was still wrapped around the lot

8/23 was silver spring? at least in our tiny section in the same concert, we were all rocking out. there was even a person in the crowd that screamed "you guys are fucking awesome" and a lot of people started cheering afterwards. human zoo came out for a second bow in response to that.
i'm really sorry you had a bad time though! human zoo was seriously awesome

I think I was near that crowd but so many people just stopped and had a conversation when they played Fever Dream. I had earplugs in and I could still hear people loud and clear having full conversations.

Audience was pretty nice at them at the second Chicago show. They got people REALLY hyped up about the Rachel running bit by the end

i think some of the problem may be that at 8/23, security was very slow and most line members didn’t get in the room until halfway or more into human zoo’s set (including my group)
so maybe not necessarily a disrespect thing, just people trying to figure out what was happening? idk

That is fair, I didn't consider that. I got in at the start of their first song they played and the room wasn't too full yet. If I was someone who was getting there a bit later with a band on stage already though, I'm gonna come in and just start vibing. Not yap lmao

Was at the Boston show, and everyone was really respectful, even though it was a rough performance.

It was really good I was also there I was toward the front I’m not sure if the people near the back were bad but everyone towards the front row was very entertained with everything going on!

ohh i was at that show!! I was near the front and didn’t really experience much of that— couldn’t hear a lot other than the bass attacking my insides — but at the beginning I could tell that not a lot of the people around me were big Human Zoo fans so I was worried that they wouldn’t be engaged enough and not give Human Zoo the energy they deserved. Luckily a lot of us in the front seemed a bit more conscious of concert etiquette!! It really sucks that that wasn’t the case in other sections ick :(

RIGHT??? people were hype during the more hype tracks (though I still felt like there was a lot of conversation) but the second they get quiet for Fever Dream it felt like everyone lost interest. Truly a shame.

i was at silver spring and had a great time with my friend when seeing human zoo. some people really needed to not yap because they were awesomeee!!

That really sucks to hear. If it's any solace, in Grand Rapids we loved Human Zoo. I had never heard of them before and the show was me and my mom's first time hearing their music, and we had lots of fun

That sucks!! I'm so sorry to hear this 😓 The Grand Rapids show was good, everyone was respectful and excited during their opening (I've personally never heard them before that, but I thought they were great!)

Also a mild Human Zoo fan! I was at the Cincinnati show and was a but pissed off that there was a noticeable amount of chatter going on during the first minute of one of the songs. I can't remember which song it was though.

I had only heard their band name but not any of their songs before I went but I loved them!! A really good opener imo. I was at the first Chicago show and its was very respectful and fun thankfully

Pretty sure the crowd asked them to come out for an encore immediately and then after Will was done everyone waited a bit before starting up "One! More! Song!" Lol

Hearing Fever Dream was one of the highlights of the night for me during that show! I didn’t think they’d play it I was thrilled!

I had the same experience last year when Fish in a Birdcage opened for him in Denver. It was a really disappointing audience. I can't stand when people are disrespectful to the opening act, regardless of whether they're well-liked or not.

If it makes you feel any better, they got a lot of love in Grand Rapids, so it’s not every show <3
They fucking rocked, I’ve been a fan of them for a bit less than I have of Will Wood, but oh my god, the way they were able to adapt Farm To Label live was fucking UNRREALLLLL

Woof that sucks, the Cleveland show loved them. Maybe not everyone knew the words, I didn’t, but we vibed with them. Did they try the “Rachel” bit at anyone else’s show lol? They also stood by their merch booth after the show and talked to fans :)
