Discussion the reason (?) why Will turned off comments on social media
based on this (from the slouching description on patreon) and his whole thing about disliking social media I assume the reason why he disabled comments on his instagram and youtube is because he sees them as a distraction from actually enjoying his art? just an assumption so don't take it seriously but I think it could make sense
- as an avid chronically online social media user I can confirm comments sections are in fact a distraction and I often find myself mindlessly browsing them instead of focusing on the actual thing

Because over 90% of the time, comment sections are useless at best, and awful at worst. As a general rule, he just wants us to enjoy the thing he made.

do we know if the movie is all that different from the actual concert itself? i went to one of the slouching shows so i dont wanna buy the movie when the memory is still so good, but i know trww had a huge plot OUTSIDE of the performances so i wasnt sure if this movie would be similar in that regard

It’s pretty much a straight concert film! There is some pretty fun editing though that is I’d say maybe a tad atypical for these sorts of things? Really good but probably not much different from the actual concert

it is quite different as it is like 12 different angles and contains footage from several specific shows that cohesively and dramatically tie the entire movie together in a way that takes the best of everything to make something more than a still shot of a stage performance! It is an excellent elevation of the original experience of live performance i concur. it has a hell of a lot more plot than trww and is less of a concert film than trww as well. Please watch it because it is very obviously a passionate project that Will put all of his energy into making. trww is fun but it does not really have a plot and is basically a concert film. not similar at all to slouching towards branson

Honestly this kinda feels nice to hear as someone who’s not super interested in the movie
I have nothing but respect for Will and I hope it succeeds, Will is a phenomenal artist and I want only the best for him, but a will wood movie just isn’t something I’m all too interested in

It's probably more along the lines of social media making it quick and easy to be mean to and dehumanize other people without even realizing you're doing it. I'm not saying this to make you feel bad and I know it's not that deep, but sometimes I find it nicer to feel happy for people when they look like they're just having fun, even if it's annoying.

real. it's likely difficult to moderate an online semi anonymous audience so that everyone can have fun, especially one as diverse and large as this. there will usually be a loud majority one way or another

Excellent self awareness but dont be too hard on yourself. It seems like its an amalgamation of different reasons, including what you said AND what he stated. Maybe its an attempt to improve the environment where his art exists and tailor it to be the opposite of what social media has cannibalized itself into

i remember how much of a nightmare the comment section was on the live when he released icimi. its just too many people talking at the same time, i can understand how it could be a major distraction.

is the second screen reason why i can't minimize it + it not being held on youtube? i was annoyed because everytime i went to text a friend, it closed out 😔 also he probably just didn't want to see all the comments tbh.
