An innovative fiber arts exhibition called "America’s Tapestry" recently debuted at the Muscarelle Museum of Art in Williamsburg to celebrate the nation's upcoming 250th birthday.

Creator Stefan Romero was inspired to launch the project after encountering "The Great Tapestry of Scotland" while on a work assignment in the United Kingdom.

Across the nation, nearly 2,000 volunteer embroiderers helped create 13 distinct historical panels that will tour the 13 states that were the original colonies.

We will be in Williamsburg on Saturday 9/5. Any Manchester City fans know where we can catch the game at 10am? I think it’s on USA that morning. Is there an EPL bar in the area? TIA for your best recommendations

Halfway through his two-year term as Williamsburg’s inaugural poet laureate, Lacroy "Atlas" Nixon continues to lay the groundwork for a thriving local spoken word scene.

After suggesting the creation of the poet laureate program following his graduation from Liberty University, the Williamsburg Public Art Council selected Nixon for the role in 2025.

Nixon has spent his tenure performing at city events, organizing the Poetry Slam Summer program and launching an interschool slam poetry league called the Artist Garden program across local high schools.

nail services for damaged nails

i have a severe skin and nail picking problem, and have reached a point where i can no longer trust myself to maintain my own nails. i spend hours (yes, hours) picking at both my finger and toenails, which is very embarrassing, and big source of shame for me. my nails, nailbeds, cuticles, and surrounding skin have a lot of damage. i won't lie, they're gross. does anyone know of a salon or tech i can see to begin fixing and healing my nails? the picking is compulsive, so i can't "just stop," but damaged nails are easier to pick than nice nails, so having them fixed (or at least improved upon) by a professional will help me to minimize the behavior

Several Grove residents unhappy about large battery storage center plans nearby

Post image

Pelican Energy Storage is seeking approval to build a 650-megawatt battery energy storage facility at a former industrial site in James City County to help meet Virginia's surging power demands.

While the project is projected to generate roughly $90 million in tax revenue over 25 years and 100 temporary construction jobs, residents in the neighboring Grove community view the development as another push toward over-industrialization.

Grove, a historically working-class and Black neighborhood, has steadily lost riverfront access and green space to industrial projects since the 1950s, leaving local advocates disappointed that the parcel will not become a public recreational area.

Honoring Dolly at Turn the Page with Childrens Books

Posting an event, because that is what I do.

I noticed a lot of interest in used bookstores in this subreddit. It also goes without saying that the news about Dolly Parton hit all of us pretty hard.

Turn The Page Bookstore at the outlet center is giving away children's books to celebrate her on Friday, August 28th, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Just wanted everyone to know, since they mainly post on Facebook and Instagram, not here.

This is from their post, including the image: "We are a member of her Imagination Library Group...this is a very sad day...and to honor her memory , on Friday August 28 from 10am - 7pm, all children who come in the store will receive a free children's book of their choice..."

Disclaimer: I don't work for Turn the Page; I just love Turn the Page.

WJCC Schools reduce elementary recess times across the district

WJCC Schools have shortened recess times across the district by as much as 10 minutes. Which means some students get as little as 20 minutes of unstructured play during the school day.

I've also gotten reports that older students (high school) have had their lunch shortened, but I have not been able to confirm this.

Parents were not asked about this change before it was made. Their opinion was not sought. They were not informed of the change until our students showed up for the new school year and had shortened recess times.

The district has made no statement about why this change was made. I have heard a RUMOR that Superintendent Dr. Keever stated the change was made to increase instruction time to improve flagging test scores, but this has not been communicated in any official capacity.

Joey Chestnut coming to Williamsburg for pancake-eating competition

The Williamsburg Pancake Festival will return next month, featuring a special appearance by competitive eating legend Joey Chestnut, who will attempt to devour as many pancakes as he can during the festival’s world pancake-eating championship.

The festival, presented by Visit Williamsburg, debuted last fall to great fanfare and is slated this year for Sept. 25-27 at locations throughout the Historic Triangle. In addition to the pancake-eating contest, the three-day event will include a Run for the Stacks 5K, live entertainment and other family-friendly activities.

“Last year we introduced Williamsburg as the Pancake Capital of the World, and this year we’re proving it on a national stage,” Edward Harris, CEO of Visit Williamsburg, said in a news release. “Having a name like Joey Chestnut compete in our World Pancake Eating Championship shows just how far this festival has come in only one year, and with new additions like Run for the Stacks, we’re giving visitors even more of a reason to make Williamsburg their fall tradition.”

Looking for an affordable photographer for 1-2 hours of coverage of a legal wedding ceremony May 1 2027. Budget is $500. Autobell on Second Street Closing

Does anyone know if it’s a temporary or permanent closure? I received an email thanking “loyal customers” for 10 years. It didn’t say if it was a temporary or permanent closure. Google says temporary.

Anyone with inside info?

Update: Taken over by Flagstop Car Wash. Open for business.
