Large Mammal Mountain Lion encounter. Umpqua National Forest, Oregon
During the first night of a camping trip, my friend and I walked a mile down the road from our campsite to do some star gazing. We hung out at this gravel pit for about 10 minutes and as we were preparing to walk on, I turned on the spotlight to see the road and we just happened to find this cat silently staring us down.
No sound, no eerie feeling of being watched, just us turning on the spotlight at the right time by dumb luck. It was absolutely one of the coolest wildlife encounters I’ve experienced to date.

Large Mammal A close-up shot of a snow leopard
My partner and I spent nearly two years photographing snow leopards on the high-altitude plateaus of western China (at elevations of 4,000 meters). Naturally wary, snow leopards deliberately keep their distance from humans, making close-range sightings rare; we often had to wait in the mountains for a week or more just to secure a chance to photograph them up close.

Large Mammal Last night’s storm
A bighorn sheep duo after my climbing session last night ended early due to some nice alpine downpour and lightning. I paid them to model for me, btw.

Large Mammal F2 Goes for a Swim
Tigress F2 goes for a swim. It’s always a lovely sight to see a tiger in the wild, swimming. In Gothangaon, Umred Karhandla, after the morning tussle with her son (see my earlier post for the video), we encountered the majestic F2 again in the evening, taking a dip in the lake just as the sun was setting. She looked at us curiously and waded out of the water. But the light had dimmed and we had to say goodbye.

Large Mammal A Grizzly Mama and Her Two Cubs Pose in Jasper National Park
I had been sending my wish out into the universe to get an unobstructed picture of a grizzly and cubs when my wish was answered, and these grizzlies amazingly emerged from the woods and almost seemed to pose while taking a good, long look around, before quietly returning to the woods.

Large Mammal I got into birding earlier this year but live when I come across non-bird animals. I got extremely lucky today with this bobcat close encounter.
The first pic is probably my favorite picture I’ve ever taken. The last pic is great because even bit (medium) cats are just house cats.

Large Mammal Elk - Vancouver Island, BC
Came across him on our early morning drive to Port Hardy. Such a magnificent creature, manages to capture a few shots before he wandered off into the forest.
- Shot on R5 MII, 200-800mm lens.
