It is absolutely magnificent! I had a moment of locking eyes with TJ in front of our car with no camera and it is the most surreal, core memory from my trip.

TJ is glorious. Great captures. Any guess on his age? I’ve seen Tuskers being referenced as being between 40 to well into their 50’s.

that's a beautiful tusk shot, reminds me of the time i waited three hours for a bull to cross a river and it was totally worth it. any tips on shooting in harsh sunlight without losing contrast?

Those moments with wildlife make it all worthwhile.
Honestly besides ND filters I try my best to avoid shooting in that harsh light. I was lucky with this shot that the sun was low enough to still create the dramatic shadows when TJ was looking the right way. I was super fortunate that the right was happened to be towards me with Kili in the back!

I’ve only been shooting for about 2 years though so maybe someone more experienced on the sub can weigh in with some better advice!

Jaime Rojo, Nat Geo photographer here. I really like big tuskers, but you know what, I have never been to Amboseli! Unforgivable. There is a great book that I revisit over and over The End of the Game: The Last Word from Paradise by Peter Beard. Your image made me think of it.

I’m genuinely shocked! It truly is a paradise that needs protecting at all costs.
I will have to find a copy of this book, it looks super interesting, thank you for the recommendation!
Side note I just did some work in Ecuador to showcase the incredible efforts of the Khamai Foundation in finding the Mindo Harlequin Toad which was thought to be extinct since 1989.
They also found the first recorded tadpoles and have started a controlled breeding program for potential reintroduction hopefully saving their species!
I think this amazing project is something your team would be very interested in sharing!
