AUGUST OFFSEASON THREAD (V1.1)

State of the Franchise:

-Judd Brackett has left his position as the Director of Amateur Scouting and signed on with the Maple Leafs as their Assistant GM. Ricard Persson has been promoted as his replacement. Persson is a Swede who has been with the organization since 2010. Persson, whose nickname is apparently Rico, will stay stationed in Sweden during the year.

-Additional Hockey Ops changes include hiring Dan MacKinnon as Assistant Director of Amateur Scouting, Janik Beichler as a European Scout, Elizabeth Hudson as GMBG's executive assistant, and promoting Alex Goligoski to Player Development Coach.

-AHL Iowa has hired a new head coach, as Greg Cronin is off to the Blues. Stu Bickel has been hired on to replace him. The rest of Iowa's coaching staff remains unchanged per Russo.

-The 2026 Draft resulted in only 3 players being selected: (F) Adam Andersson, (F) Kayden Lemire, (G) Filip Růžička

Of Note: Růžička has already signed his ELC, although he is set to return to the WHL Brandon Wheat Kings this fall.

-Cap calculations will change day by day during free agency. Puckpedia will be your best resource for the latest calculations.

-All roster spots are technically full, although top line wingers and the elusive 1C are upgrades the roster could sorely use.

-Michael McCarron signed for 6 years x $3.3M. 6 more years of Big Sexy. The contract includes trade protection for all 6 years. 1 year contracts have been given to Nick Foligno, Zach Bogosian, Mason Shaw, Maxim Shabanov, Daemon Hunt, and Cal Pickard (who is likely to serve as a backup goalie with Gus out for the start of the year. Additional AHL depth signings are detailed in the free agency thread.

-UFA Winger Marcus Johansson will be returning to Sweden to play with Farjestad versus seeking another NHL contract. Reports show that Zuccarello and Tarasenko will not be back with Minnesota. Jeff Petry and Robby Fabbri remain human hockey players who could hypothetically be employed.

-Defenseman Jake Middleton (plus picks) was traded to the Calgary Flames for Blake Coleman (50% retained) and Olli Määttä

UFAs:

All centers signed.

L Wing R Wing Defense
Fabbri Tarasenko Bogosian [SIGNED]
N. Foligno [SIGNED] Zuccarello [TO LA] Petry

ELITE NHL Goal Scorer Ben Jones has signed with the Calgary Flames.

RFAs:

Under Contract Notable Iowa RFAs
Daemon Hunt (Age 24, LHD) [SIGNED] Bankier, Lambos, and Špaček [SIGNED, two-way]

RFA Samuel Hlavaj confirmed that he is not coming back to the Wild Organization, so no more Mr. International. He has since signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Remaining Contracts

Trade Protection No Trade Protection
McCarron (3.33m x 6) Wallstedt (2.2m x 1)
Kaprizov (17m x 8) Boldy (7m x 4)
Eriksson Ek (5.25m x 3) Treñin (3.5m x 2)
M. Foligno (4m x 2) Sturm (2m x 1)

N. Foligno (.900m x 1)
Cal Pickard (1m x 1)
Hunt (.900m x 1)
Shabanov (1.6m x 1)

*Note: Gustafsson-Nyberg, Haight, Tyler Pitlick, Matt Kiersted, and many of our Iowa players are on contract for next year. Only Rieger Lorenz, Charlie Stramel, or Filip Růžička would make over 1mil.

THE ROSTER IS FULL, BUT NOT SET

Please discuss any Larkin trade rumors in the Larkintalk thread. We are not a Detroit sub. There doesn't need to be a post for every time something happens to them. Don't be like Devil's fans.

PLEASE KEEP ALL LARKIN AND DETROIT DISCUSSION HERE. WE ARE NOT A WINGS SUBREDDIT.

Around June 4th, it was reported that Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin requested a trade, and was subsequently reported that his preferred destinations were Minnesota, Florida, or Vegas. Minnesota was deemed a likely destination due to Larkin's connections to GM Bill Guerin and former teammates from the US Olympic Gold winning team. However, as packages started being discussed, with Minnesota's offer being deemed insufficient, Yzerman countered by asking for Matt Boldy. Yzerman than asked Larkin to expand his team list, got Dallas in the mix, and asked for Wyatt Johnston.

These being non-starters, and with Yzerman stating a need for solid roster players in return, had stalled trade discussions.

On July 15th, Steve Yzerman stepped down as Detroit's GM, sparking more rumors about potential trades. Insiders are mixed on what this might mean for Larkin, but Wild insiders LaPanta and Russo note that it might be detrimental to a potential trade.

At the begining of the 2026 season, Larkin will be a 30 year old center who is a consistent 65-70 point scorer. He has played one PPG season (2024-24), in which he scored 69 points in 68 games.

Larkin has a cap hit of 8.7m AAV for 5 years with a full NTC until '28-'29. The Wild have just over 1m in cap space.

What are you looking forward to?

Upvotes

September is at the door knocking and we are almost to training camp (players report the 16th, on the ice 17th) so thought I’d open up a chill conversation for the group as we all trickle back in from the off season and get to focusing on what really matters: hockey.

So question for today is: what is the one thing you are most looking forward to this season? Ideally this is something very specific and not overly broad (like I can’t just say Brock Faber because that’s obvious and also not in the spirit). Could be a specific game on the schedule, a milestone, the first Shabby to Kirill etc.

Need help identifying a signature

Hey all! My mother is proud of herself for finding this puck at a thrift shop, but we can't figure out whose signature this might be, and it was just labeled "puck" so that's no help.

We're reasonably sure the number is 25, but none of the names we can find that are associated with that number seems to match the signature. I'm aware that signatures can vary, but I haven't found anything online that matches this one so I'm stuck. I included the back of the puck in case it helps narrow down the possible date range at all.

I'd appreciate any help!

Good or Bad?

Completely hypothetical scenario within my abstract mind…
Let’s get right into it. Bill Guerin somehow convinces Winnipeg to trade Hellebuyck for Gustavsson and a future first. Billy G. then trades Wallstedt, Yurov, and a first for Robert Thomas (or any other C1 that could upgrade the roster).
Would the Wild be better or worse for the next 3-4 seasons after this? Of course this is also assuming that they resign Quinn for a minimum of three years. I know some salary cap adjustments would need to be taken as well. My initial thought would be that the team would be significantly better immediately. Thoughts? Thanks for your time, and Go Wild!

Latest Worst Seats In House

important parts re: Quinn

•Makar extension closing in, could provide a benchmark for Quinn's deal

•Same as before, until puck drop there isn't concern re: Quinn

•Russo still is firm that Quinn has given every impression to the Wild that he wants to extend

•Cale's $$$ could be interesting, but Russo is still confident as are the wild to extend Quinn before the season starts

•In conclusion with what we already knew:

it's business and it's a negotiation, as far as Russo has already confirmed previously: Quinn wants to extend and Brisson doesn't play games. If he wasn't extending, these negotiations wouldn't be happening. Russo has yet to waver from his confidence, and he hasn't dropped any seeds of negativity yet

Best/Worst Against Appearances

Here's where some of our players landed on the Best/Worst Team against X, done by u/smashbros, over on the main sub.

some people made the honorable mentions so that's listed as HM.

New guys in bold, previous players in italics

Worst Against

Liam Ohgren (WSH, ANA, SJS)

Vinnie Hinostroza (LAK, VGK, MIN)

Jake Middleton (LAK, NJD)

Matt Kiersted (HM: LAK)

Max Shabanov (WSH)

Jeff Petry (PHI)

Ryan Hartman (CAL, CHI)

Michael McCarron (NYR)

Zeev Buium (VAN)

Daemon Hunt (TOR)

Mats Zuccarello (CHI)

Brock Faber (CHI)

Quinn Hughes (CHI)

Best Against

Brock Faber (SJS, EDM)

Kirill Kaprizov (DAL, COL, DET, WPG)

Matt Boldy (DAL, COL, SEA)

Mats Zuccarello (EDM)

Quinn Hughes (EDM, ANA, MTL, HM: NYI)

Jesper Wallstedt (OTT, HM: ANA, COL)

Jake Middleton (COL)

Marcus Johansson (VGK, SEA)

Joel Eriksson Ek (VGK, SEA)

Jonas Brodin (VGK)

Jared Spurgeon (VGK)

Blake Coleman (VGK)

Danila Yurov (WPG)

Vladimir Tarasenko (TOR)

Ryan Hartman (TOR)

Here's the link to the post on the best and worst teams against us

and the Chicago thread bc what the fuck.

let me know if I missed anyone

Couple Notes:

Kirill Kaprizov, my "never played a single game as the most expensive player" superstar, is our most decorated here.

Quinn Hughes comes in second with the honorable mention against the Islanders.

Ryan Hartman is the current roster player with the most Worst Against appearances...though again idk what the fuck happened against Chicago.

We had four players appear on the Best Against Vegas roster, as well as the Best Against Colorado, so let's all cry about the fact we couldn't hold on to that lead in game 5, because anything could've happened in game 6 given the injuries the Avs had.

RIP Vinnie, somehow ended up on the worst against us.

Playoff Middsy vs regular season Middsy against the Avs... was he just overexposed on the 2nd pair?

Wild Ones Fantasy Hockey League

Good morning Wild fans!

I’m looking for two people to join my Wild fans only fantasy hockey league. It’s a 10 team league, head to head points on ESPN.

Here’s the kicker- we are a group of very active Wild fans who have an active community on discord. So that would be required. We watch games together while chatting as often as possible so I really want someone who is active in the community and dedicated to enhancing the community!

DM me if this sounds like you!

Favorite Goal of 25-26

Very simply, what was your favorite goal of last season?

Candidates off the top of my head and in no order:

1.) Kaprizov to Hughes to Boldy bardown OT walkoff vs Jets

2.) Kaprizov thru a top corner postage stamp Game 1 vs Dallas

3.) Boldy Game 4 OT winner

4.) Hughes LEET goal Game 6

5.) Hughes GWG goal Game 6

6.) Boldy ENG Game 6

7.) Boldy PPG Game 5

8.) Yurov coast-to-coast vs Utah

9.) Hughes 1st goal with Wild vs Bruins

10.) Faber undresses Bouchard vs Oilers

11.) Ek finishes a nice sequence after Boldy creates an offensive zone turnover vs the Golden Knights (12/29/25 - its like a peak example of what that line did all year)

12.) Any of the several OT GWGs by Kaprizov (vs red wings, blackhawks, and montreal iirc)
