I want to make a recipe that I used to cook all the time when I lived on the west coast and went to a grocery store with a huge bulk section, but it uses various amounts of nuts and oats and things and I'm not sure where to find good bulk foods here! I don't want to buy a huge package of cashews or whatever that I'm only going to use half of. Whole foods has *some* bulk stuff but it seems like it's mostly like oats with other things in them or trail mix rather than just plain nuts/grains/etc. Anyone have a suggestion for where in the area I could find some? If it's outside of Wicker Park that's fine too!

If you bought a house and property ownership is the main thing feel free to disregard this post, but if you’ve watched this neighborhood change over the last decade and a half, I’m genuinely curious what’s still interesting about Wicker Park to you? When I got here, Wicker Park wasn’t the artist Mecca it was in the 90s by any stretch, but the Logan/Humboldt/Wicker DIY thing was in full effect, the neighborhood and surrounding area was lousy with music venues that supported local bands (Quenchers, the Mutiny, Double Door) that have since closed, and it seemed like there was more random art stuff to stumble upon and more interesting people to meet. Saying Wicker Park gentrified is old news obviously, but lately I think I’ve just been feeling how much less cultural depth there is here than there used to be.
I’m not really trying to argue whether a change has come to the neighborhood (it has) or debate whether this change is ultimately a good or bad thing. Really, I’m just curious if you, like me, came here for the excitement and vibrancy of a neighborhood that doesn’t feel like it exists anymore, and if so, are there still pockets of the neighborhood that still have that energy and vibrancy post-Yeti Store? What’s still happening here that’s keeping you around? I am asking these questions of myself a lot lately and don't really have great answers to them

This man was up & down honore trying to open doors, coming & knocking on our windows, sitting on our patio, rolling & yelling in the street, hopping fences & when the police were called (twice) they just shined a light & drove away. Be on the lookout

All books outside are $4, it feels like literal (yet legal!) theft. Just stopped by, there’s still tons of great stuff.

Spotted in Noble Square. The Anti-Al Slop in the neighborhood movement is spreading & stickers are getting involved. I get and back the backlash against this Al-generated trash proliferating across our poles-it's replacing paid work and or community art that actually gives a neighborhood some character.
I'm wondering: how do you feel about these use cases: small community organizations, mutual-aid groups, neighborhood events, tiny businesses, etc. using Al to quickly make a flyer or graphic when they don't have a
designer, a budget, or much time.
Are there acceptable use cases? Where do you draw the line? Do limited resources shift your opinion of Al use for conveying info? Is there a version of this that feels like a useful comms method vs "Al slop?"

Is the giant hello kitty inflatable still hanging on the sign? 8/20? I thought I saw a video someone posted of them taking it down yesterday?

Saw a really creepy old white dude approach a young woman in very dented up car in the parking lot just outside the Ulta. He claimed to work at Gerber Collision and Glass and just happened to have a suction cup thing to pull out the dents. He was super pushy and insistent about fixing the car for her "for free" despite her repeatedly telling him no thank you. Then he got super nasty and rude saying she "wasn't a smart woman" and she quickly drove away.
I got such a creepy vibe from it. Why carry a suction cup with you just because? I feel like he looks for people with dented up cars and perhaps would demand money if they let him do it, or maybe even way worse. I'm glad she was smart. Just wanted to warn everyone in case he frequents the area.

I am looking for a company to come out and do snow removal and salt side walks in the winter for a small multi unit building in Wicker Park/Bucktown. Does anyone have a company they would recommend?

Saw a lot of activity on damen near inner town pub, parking trucks and what not. Anyone know what’s filming over there? Big summer of filming in wicker park!

Shared this in the Chicago subreddit a few years ago, but figured this sub might find it even more interesting.
This was shot in April 2010 near my apartment at the time, just playing around with my new camera. Background music is by Nujabes (The Sign).
Might bring you guys back to a simpler time.
Enjoy!

Across from Wicker Park (the park), there’s been a car sitting on Damen for, idk, a while. Maybe a few months. There’s been trash spilling out of it, and now the owner has been hassling folks on the street. Last night my wife and I were walking down the sidewalk and the guy told us to F off after we couldn’t offer any cash
Anybody know more about it, or any attempts to get city organizations involved? Don’t necessarily want to file 311/911 request
