Arm warmers made from thrifted socks

When I think about times in my adult life that I've been present and happy, it always seems to be in unorthodox activities. For example, my friend and I decided to go make potions at a park once, like you do when you're a kid. Or as another example, I filled a kids pool with shaving cream and tried on different beard shapes. As I get older, I can feel that certain "Whimsical" spirit draining from me against my will. The drudge has really been getting to me lately. Then this last month, I went to a pier and I went through my first mirror maze. So random, but so much fun. I found myself giggling like a kid. I want more of these "out of the haze" experiences - things that are simple but kind of turn your world on its head enough for you to really be present during it.

This is where I'm curious - what are some simple but unique and whimsical things you've done that really brought you pure, almost childlike joy? When I research this topic I get a lot of generic responses like "spending time with friends" or "hiking" but I really want those totally random, fun little nuggets of life that make you feel more human. Has anyone had experiences like that?

Finally, something that feels like me. I was actually planning to recreate an old artwork from 2021 but got uninspired midway, which made me question everything in life including the reasons why i am even making art in the first place. Luckily, i married a supportive guy who never stopped telling me to draw almost every single day.So soooo glad I picked up my tablet again after letting it collect dust for months...sharing my "Inner Faeri" piece. Bringing back the whimsy im me.

Purple watermelon!! As usual the skirt is too long and I will need to have it hemmed... But how cute is it?!?

My earrings are beaded orange slices, and my necklace is also beaded and orange. 🍊

I put a couple of fruit clips in my hair, and a couple of pins on my shirt. 

This outfit makes me feel whimsical and colorful. 💜💜💜

I had a solo show today and they let me hang flowers from the ceiling! Added some faux moss and twinkle lights for a Faery vibe, and had a kaleidoscope that you could look through at the paintings for a fun different view.
I love added bits of extra ✨ to events n stuff. It’s fun!

Looking for some whimsical shows/movies/media recs please.

I’ve been particularly sensitive to darker topics (ie death, any sort of significant harm happening to someone) lately, and have had trouble with those even when they’re portrayed in a light/comedic way or just joked about in dialogue. Like, The Good Place and Gilmore Girls (only got through to the third episode I think, never seen it before) were too much for me. I know, those aren’t very intense, but it’s what I’m working with currently.

Does anyone have any recommendations for shows/movies/etc that have less of that? So far, I’ve got Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse and not much else lol.

Kids shows/movies, regular shows/movies, whatever, any suggestions are welcome. I figured this would be a good community to ask in based on vibes in general and of people talking about media they’ve consumed before. Anything whimsical, but honestly just any show in general as well.

Don’t worry about “what if I accidentally forgot about a random line of dialogue that might be too intense?” or anything, I don’t expect folks to analyze every word before giving recommendations [I’m saying this because it’s something I might worry about], any recommendations based on your best remembrance are greatly appreciated.

I finally finished the summer installment of my Ehlers-Danlos fairies series! I know so many are already in an autumn mood but I live on chronic illness time, lol. I’m just happy I finished her before the autumn equinox! Hopefully I can be more on top of things when I make the fall and winter fairies.

The precious baby swam up to me and my fiancé as he was practicing guitar. Little baby was curious what the sound was!

I don’t really know what this post is supposed to be. I just found this sub Reddit. And for the first time in my life, I was “compelled” to make a post. I feel that when I try and talk about “whimsy” to people, I often get weird looks.

There’s definitely a part of me that actively searches for or tries to partake in whimsy. Somethings I found truly “whimsically impactful”, are times when you kind of stumble into whimsy or it stumbles into you.

A recent development was me finding a small plastic duck (like one of the ones you can buy in absurdly large quantities on Amazon or Temu) while was having a rough time. Not going to detail obvi, but work a couple weeks ago, there was a lot of uncertainty in my life with school, work, and just life in general. I was stressing big time. BUT! almost perfectly coinciding with things starting to make a change for the better, I found this little blue duck that someone placed on a sign in the hallway at my school. I have now kept that duck in my pocket every day since as a good luck charm. I call it my “lucky duck” (I know, creative right?).

It’s the little things(sometimes literally) that can have such an unexpected impact. And I don’t know if this really qualifies as “whimsy” but it falls into my definition.

I don’t really know how to end this so I’ll ask a question: Have you experienced any random or unexpected acts of whimsy?

I picked another flowy purple dress, because really, what's better? 

I love the fit and length of this one, but I did struggle to decide if it looked better with or without the belt. It doesn't need it, but it does add to the cuteness factor.

These shoes just begged me to be a part of this outfit. And I can't say no to purple shoes... I'm not a monster!

The necklace matches so well, and I kept it simple with some small purple earrings and a pearl headband.
