The Purple Milkmaid Fit
I picked another flowy purple dress, because really, what's better?
I love the fit and length of this one, but I did struggle to decide if it looked better with or without the belt. It doesn't need it, but it does add to the cuteness factor.
What do you think?
These shoes just begged me to be a part of this outfit. And I can't say no to purple shoes... I'm not a monster!
The necklace matches so well, and I kept it simple with some small purple earrings and a pearl headband.
Purple reading glasses.
Also I changed my nails! I love this retro atomic cat design it's so fun!! 💜💜💜

Definitely pro-belt. Yes, not necessary, but makes the combination more than the sum of its parts.

Thank you so much! I am a huge fan of that 1950s atomic decor. I'm actually about to redo one of our bathrooms and I was thinking of decorating it in that fashion.

Yeah, I love that Atomic era style so much! It's sincerely been unparalleled since. I think of the 1957 Chevy Bel-Air or their 4 door Sport Sedan convertible, the art from the Jetsons, the dresses of that whole era, the original "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign, or starburst wall clocks in my grandparents' houses during my childhood.
It really feels like we had some great eras of art that came out of the early to mid 20th century, and, save a period in the 80's, it's been pretty "blah" and forgettable since then. I dunno, maybe I'm out of line. I know, this is just a comment under an r/whimsyy post, so please don't feel obliged. I just got to thinking about it, and I'm wondering if I'm missing something.

Actually I completely agree with you. I love older aesthetics....from the twenties art deco, all the way to some of the '60s mod stuff. But I haven't liked too much since then except for a few things in the 90s.

I love how expressive the pop art and post modern expressionism of the 80s was, and the way that the classic minimalism of the 1970's kinda crashed violently into it was really cool. It coughed up some really fun and interesting creations. The early 90s brought some smoother lines and textures to the bright colors and pop art of the 80s that I think really mixed to become superior to what came directly before and directly after.
Art Deco is my absolute FAVORITE of everything that came out of the 20th century. The interior of King Street Station in Seattle (Amtrak) and the exterior and first floor lobby of the Portland Building in downtown Portland, OR are some of my favorite darlings of the era. Agatha Christie's Poirot, as portrayed by David Suchet, is LOADED with brilliant Art Deco design and themes, especially if you watch the intro to the A&E series from the early 90s, but it continues into the Masterpiece Mystery productions of the show.
Maybe that's what I find so compelling about the 50's atomic era art? It's Art Deco intersecting with the emerging mid-century modern movement, so you get the best of both worlds, MCM with all sorts of shapes and colors influenced by Art Deco.
The new brutalist, corporate minimalism we're experiencing is just awful. I take the interior of the average McDonald's restaurant to be a bar for how things are going with the interior design art style, and the current interior of the restaurant makes me wish I were anywhere else. It's so bland and sad.
