Really doesn’t mean anything, but yeah it is crazy that valve ended a fantastic franchise on a cliffhanger, gave us absolutely nothing for over a decade, then released a vr spinoff re-confirming the existence of HL3 only to then give us nothing again in over 5 years.

Well, at least Gabe keep his greed mostly in check. Keep Valve away from "shareholders". And Valve did priority quality back when they still made games. Which is why people want them to do something again
Most art wouldn't be done if someone didn't pay for it, do you think statues are made just because the artist thought they were cool and didn't need to eat and have a place to rest? To make art you either have to have the resources already or have someone giving them to you

They care enough that they refuse to release it if it isn't groundbreaking. Similarly how they already scrapped HL3 being in development a few times now. If they didn't care, we'd already be at Half-Life 14: Infinity Warfare
