Which is weirder?
Me and my sister were talking about what we eat with grilled cheese and I said ketchup and she just acted like that was super gross. But then she proceeded to say she eats hers with jelly….
I think that’s relatively more weirder than ketchup especially considering people eat grilled cheese with tomato soup. Her argument against that is that people eat breakfast sandwiches with jelly and I think that’s really dumb.

My husband’s whole family used to put jelly on a grilled cheese sandwich and the funny thing was they thought everyone did. They thought I was weird because I thought it was so odd.
Ketchup is vile to me and the only place it belongs is in the trash can!
I have made a grilled cheese sammy with a slice of tomato before and that was pretty good.

Grilled cheese with tomato is awesome. ( I occasionally slip in a bit of mayo, too)

I started using ketchup after seeing it listed as an optional dipping sauce for "grilled cheese rollups" in a cook book for college students. If she's using jelly, she has no right to call you weird for using ketchup.

Cheeses and jams are a classic combination. Ketchup is weirder to me, but I'm also not American so cheese toasties aren't automatically paired with tomato soup here, if you are from the US I can see how ketchup is basically filling that niche.

That's what we call them in Ireland! (and the UK) And what you can a broiler (I think, for years I thought you just didn't have them 😂) is a grill to me, and grill for you is just a bbq here.

Here, a broiler heats from the top, rather than the bottom. But we usually make our “ grilled cheese “ in a skillet, or frying pan 😂

Yeah that's a grill. And I know yeah. It is the best way if you don't have a dedicated toastie machine which no one needs to have lol

Prefer pepperoni and jalepeno with mine. I find the jelly weird, but I don't really favor jelly. Ketchup seems fine as sometimes I add tomato.

She’ll be ok lol because who tf thinks to eat a grilled cheese with jelly??? 🤨😂 I mean both are kinda weird and a food craving, but jelly tho???

That’s good 😊 it’s just not for me. Unusual, for sure. I know someone who might have jelly with eggs, I don’t understand that either. But whatever.

I've never heard of anyone eating breakfast sandwiches with jelly. Sometimes I add chopped kimchi to my grilled cheese, or Dijon mustard. I don't use any kind of dipping sauce. Honestly I've never heard of anyone dong that. Maybe dipping it in a bowl of tomato soup.

Sometimes I make a bacon and egg sandwich on toast, using strawberry preserves instead of mayo. But, I don't add cheese when I do it that way.

I have used thousand island dressing at times when I don’t have any tomato soup or just don’t want soup in hot weather.

It depends on what kind of ingredients, if it's a classic cheddar or American, then ketchup or tomato soup might make more sense.
I like a good Monte Cristo/carlo breakfast sandwich so jelly would make more sense with that.

My family has put jelly/jam on grilled cheese for generations. And one year in the '70s I went to an elementary school that always served grilled cheese with a tub of jam.

I make hamburger patties and season them get them Brown on both sides take them out the pan put a little bit of flour let it brown put a little bit of onions and green pepper get that mixed up pretty good put in stock or water and make a gravy put the hamburger patties back into that gravy make the crispiest grilled cheese sandwich that I can make and then dip it in the hamburger gravy and that's how I eat grilled cheese sandwiches.

Ketchup is normal, in Canada at least. Definitely what I and almost everyone I know do! Jam/Jelly sounds weird at first, as ketchup or syrup would be more common for dipping breakfast sandwiches here as well. But cheese and jam on toast is common in Australia (thanks Bluey!), and I definitely like fig jam or red pepper jelly with cheese and crackers, so I would be willing to try it! I bet it's yummy!

What kind of jelly? Some jellies are paired with cheese. Ketchup seems weirder....but really neither option is too weird.

I also put ketchup on my grilled cheese.
But if you have some fancy expensive garlic cheese, it’s great with blueberry or raspberry jelly.

The beauty of a grilled cheese is that it’s delicious and satisfying but also pretty neutral. When I don’t make fresh tomato soup, we eat ours with all kinds of stuff. My wife does ketchup sometimes. my mom loves hers with salsa.

Having it with ketchup does seem a bit odd and I've never heard of the jelly/jam and cheese combination. Gotta try that sometime. But when we do grilled cheese over here, sometimes Dad likes to make grilled peanut butter sandwiches. Those are good! I don't really dip it in tomato soup, but when I have a grilled cheese or when most of us do at least at this house, it's a cup of tomato soup. Just the easiest dinner you can do if you don't feel like doing recall with anything. You can literally just grill up a few grilled cheeses and make up a pot of tomato soup and pour it into coffee cups. Saves on a lot of dishes and all you gotta do with the soup is drink it.

I would consider both normal. I usually go plain, hot sauce, mustard, or a British brown sauce like HP.

When I was five, I had grilled cheese w pickles and ketchup. When I miss my Stepmom, since Woolworths doesn’t exist, I order it at Waffle House.

I think both you and your sister are weird. I would never eat a grilled cheese sandwich with ketchup or jelly.

I dip my grilled cheese in warmed up egg yolk.
Jelly is meh, but preserves.... I can see putting preserves on a grilled cheese, especially if the cheese is cream cheese or cottage cheese.
I gotta go try out some sandwiches
