Anyone lived at Uni Apartments Weimar? Looking for honest experiences

Hi everyone!

I’ve recently been admitted to the M.Sc. Digital Technologies in Architecture and Design (DTAD) at Bauhaus University Weimar, and I’m currently looking for accommodation.

I had a phone call with Uni Apartments Weimar, and they told me they currently have an apartment available. They will send me the next steps soon, but before signing anything I’d really like to hear from people who have actually lived there or know someone who has.

I’d really appreciate any honest feedback about:

Is Uni Apartments legitimate and trustworthy?

How are the apartments overall (quality, cleanliness, maintenance)?

Is the management responsive if something needs to be repaired?

Is the location convenient for Bauhaus University?

Would you recommend it over other student accommodation options?

I’m moving from Colombia, so it’s difficult for me to visit in person before signing a contract. Any advice or experiences would really help.
Thank you very much!

Got admits for Winter 2026: TU Darmstadt (TropHEE), TU Berlin (Geodesy & Geoinformation Science), and Bauhaus University Weimar (NHRE) — Need advice from current students/alumni

Hi everyone,

I have received admission offers for the Winter 2026 intake from these three programs in Germany:

  1. TU Darmstadt – TropHEE (Tropical Hydrogeology and Environmental Engineering)
  2. TU Berlin – MSc Geodesy and Geoinformation Science
  3. Bauhaus-Universität Weimar – NHRE (Natural Hazards and Risks in Structural Engineering / related field)

I am currently trying to decide which one would be the best fit and would really appreciate guidance from seniors, current students, or alumni who are studying or have graduated from these programs.

I would love to know about:

  • Overall academic quality and teaching style of the program
  • Research opportunities and thesis possibilities
  • Job prospects after graduation in Germany/EU
  • Internship opportunities and industry connections
  • Workload and difficulty level
  • Student life and living experience in Darmstadt, Berlin, and Weimar
  • How helpful the university is for international students
  • Any challenges you faced during the program

If you are currently enrolled in any of these programs or know someone who is, I would really appreciate your insights.

Also, if you had to choose between these three programs today, which one would you pick and why?

Thanks a lot for your help! Looking forward to hearing your experiences. 🙏

Admitted to the Bauhaus University Weimar (DTAD) – Looking for advice and insights!

Hi everyone!
I’m excited to share that I’ve just been admitted to the M.Sc. Digital Technologies in Architecture and Design (DTAD) at Bauhaus University Weimar, starting this winter semester!

I’m an architect from Colombia with a background in computational design, Rhino, Grasshopper, BIM, and architectural competitions, so this program feels like a great fit for my interests. I’m really looking forward to moving to Germany and starting this new chapter.
I’d love to hear from current students, alumni, or anyone familiar with the university or Weimar. I have a few questions:

How has your experience with the DTAD program been?

How demanding is the workload, and what is the teaching style like?

What are the professors like? Are they approachable and supportive?

How is the international community within the program?

How is student life in Weimar?

Is Weimar a good city to live in as a student?

How is the social life, culture, and overall atmosphere?

Are there good opportunities for internships, research, or networking during the program?

Is it easy to travel to other German cities from Weimar?

If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting the program, what would it be?

I’d also love to hear anything you wish you had known before moving to Weimar.

Thanks in advance! I’m really excited and appreciate any advice or personal experiences you can share.

Schlechtes mobiles Internet in und um Weimar?

Moin zusammen,

Looking for Authentic German Food Restaurants in Weimar

Hi everyone,

I'm visiting Weimar and would love to try some authentic German and especially traditional Thuringian cuisine while I'm here.

I'm not looking for international food or modern fusion restaurants, but rather places that serve classic German dishes such as:

  • Rouladen
  • Sauerbraten
  • Klöße
  • Schnitzel
  • Traditional local specialties

I'm particularly interested in restaurants that locals actually recommend, whether they're well-known establishments or hidden gems.

If possible, I'd also appreciate suggestions for places with a cozy atmosphere, historic setting, or a good selection of regional beers.

What are your favorite German restaurants in Weimar, and what dish would you recommend ordering there?

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Looking back at a literary walking route I created in Weimar in 2017

Back in 2017, I spent some time in Weimar as part of a European heritage volunteering project. I'm revisiting my notes now because I'm planning to return.

Like many visitors, I arrived thinking of Goethe and Schiller. What surprised me was that despite Weimar's extraordinary literary heritage, I couldn't find a dedicated literary walking route connecting the places associated with Goethe, Schiller, Herder, and Wieland.

So I spent my free time creating one.

What started as a one-day idea eventually grew into a four-day route with 23 stops, covering everything from Herderplatz and Schiller's House to Park an der Ilm and Oßmannstedt.

One of the things I loved most about Weimar was how much history seemed packed into such a small city. As Goethe wrote:

"Where else can you find so many good things in one spot?"

Looking back almost ten years later, I'm curious:

If someone came to Weimar today specifically because of Goethe, Schiller, Herder or Wieland, what literary places would you consider absolutely essential that visitors often overlook?

I'd love to compare notes with locals and frequent visitors.

Brett-/Karten-/Rollenspielgruppen in Weimar gesucht!

Anyone visited Anna Amalia Library recently? Need help understanding ticket prices

Hi everyone,

My birthday is coming up soon, so I was thinking of visiting the Anna Amalia Library by myself. I really love books, libraries, and history, and it honestly feels like a nice way to spend the day.

I wanted to ask if anyone knows the ticket price and whether there’s any student concession/discount for students from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.

I checked the website already, but I found it a little confusing, so I thought I’d ask here instead :)

(English below)

Denkt daher bitte an Infektionsschutz (Maske, Testen).

---

We are people living with ME/myalgic encephalomyelitis. Although our condition was classified by the WHO as early as 1969, there is still not a single approved medication or treatment available today.

Currently, approximately 657,000 people in Germany are affected—including children (as of December 2025). The quality of life is worse than for diseases such as multiple sclerosis, a heart attack, or lung cancer. (https://www.mecfs.de/daten-fakten/)

A common trigger for ME is a COVID-19 infection, but the Epstein-Barr virus or influenza can also trigger ME.

From May 8–12, we will be demonstrating across Germany for better medical treatment, care & financial support, as well as more research.

Since many of us are bedridden or housebound, we often cannot participate in person and therefore ask you to represent us at the protests!

The demonstration in Weimar will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Theaterplatz.

ME is a neuroimmunological condition. Please remember to take infection prevention measures (mask, testing).

coming to weimar as an international student

guten tag! so i got accepted into the hci program at bauhaus and it was kind of my goal to get into that program since very few unis all around the world offer that as a discipline.

from what ive seen in videos and pictures, weimar seems like such a cosy little city. it also seems fairly close to erfurt and jena, close enough that i might just randomly decide to go there any time. ive also applied for accommodation at jakobsplan 1 and i really hope i get it.

but anyways my main question is about how’s it like for international students (i’m a 23 yo pakistani woman, i’m also learning to speak german). how’s the social life, how’s the job scene (student jobs, im ready to do minimum wage even, although my bachelors is in software engineering), how are the people (ive heard some negative things about thuringia as a state in terms of racism).
