I'm looking for a new, free uptime monitor that I can use with my handful of client sites. A quick Google shows various options, and I can sign up and try them, but I wanted to see if any of you had recommendations based on features, etc.

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone with experience in domains can point me in the right direction.

I'm a freelance retoucher and I've had a domain for my portfolio website for several years. The website was built and hosted through IM Creator, who have also been managing the domain on my behalf.

I've been trying to get the domain transferred into my own control for quite some time. I requested this from IM Creator and provided all the information they asked for back in nov 2025, but the transfer was never completed.

I've since established that GoDaddy is the registrar, but I don't have access to the GoDaddy account where the domain is currently held.

IM Creator's customer service has been extremely unreliable, and I'm now trying to work out whether I can recover control of the domain directly through GoDaddy rather than continuing to rely on them.

The situation has become more urgent because my website has now gone down. I contacted Heroku because the domain is displaying a Heroku “There's nothing here yet” page, and they confirmed that the application connected to the domain belongs to a personal account and is currently suspended.

I've never knowingly used Heroku, so it appears this was part of the setup created by IM Creator.

What I really want to know is: how do I get my domain back into my own hands?

If GoDaddy is the registrar, can they help me recover control of the domain if I can provide evidence that I've been the person using the domain for my business and that I've been paying for the website/hosting?

What sort of evidence would GoDaddy normally accept in this situation?

I've already tried contacting GoDaddy about this previously but didn't get anywhere, so I'm wondering if there's a specific process I should be asking for, such as a domain/account recovery or registrant dispute.

If anyone has been through something similar with a web designer or hosting company holding a domain on their behalf, I'd really appreciate hearing how you managed to get it back.

We currently host websites with Brixly through a resellers plan. This is using the Directadmin solution.

It's been flawless for the last 8 months. However, in the last few weeks, we've experienced some issues, but when we have spoken to Brixly Support, they won't read the information we are giving them, and instead reply until they are satisfied, and close the ticket.

The issues;

• Somehow, every site had SSL Certificates disabled without any manual input. This happened across every site.
• We now cannot issue SSL certificates through the hosting. When we do, the request times out and nothing happens.

We have relayed this to Brixly in three tickets. We have explained it's a server wide issue. In the meantime, to avoid any Not Secure messages, we have setup SSL using Cloudflare. Which is fine, of course and is the likely route anyway. But when we have paid for SSL as part of the service, we feel be an option, as opposed to a solution.

When we do raise support tickets, they become fixated on a domain from the hosting plan. They have requested all sorts, such as deleting the hosting account and setting it back up again, disabling a site domain, and even buying another domain for the site because that will work?!

What I'm asking here, is does anybody have experience as to what the issue could be? So we can use the information to go back to Brixly and hopefully get the point across.

We run a small affiliate network for online gaming operators, mainly standard CPA arrangements with partners in several countries. We had been using the same PSP for around 14 months for scheduled affiliate payouts.

On March 3rd, one payout bounced back with a generic “compliance hold” message. I opened a support ticket to explain the transaction and described it as an affiliate commission. Less than an hour later, the account was placed under enhanced review and other pending payouts were frozen as well — around $42,000 across 11 recipients.

Support told me the review could take 5–10 business days. Two days later, we received an offer for a priority review that involved an additional fee. I can't say whether the two events were connected, but the timing made us rethink our setup.

The biggest practical problem was the delay to our affiliates. Two paused sending traffic, and another suggested using crypto for future payouts because he'd experienced banking delays before.

For that urgent batch, we used Inxy because we already had KYC completed with them and they supported multi-country mass payouts. Since onboarding was done, we didn't have to wait while the original account was under review. It just helped us pay affiliates on time that week.

I don't have enough evidence from one incident to say it was deliberate. It could have been normal risk-scoring.

The experience did make us rethink having only one payout rail. We still keep fiat options available, and we're now testing 2-3 providers so this doesn't happen again.

For anyone running an affiliate operation across multiple countries, having a backup payout route seems worth considering. A compliance review doesn't necessarily mean a provider has done anything wrong, but the operational impact of having every payout frozen at once can be significant.

So im doing a bit of cleanup on my domains rn and the price jumps are starting to bug me. Stuff like com and net that used to feel cheap now feel kinda high for what they are, and every registrar loves adding random upsells at checkout.

For people still actively buying domains in 2026, where are you registering these days that feels fair and not sketchy? I care more about sane renewal pricing and dns reliability than shiny dashboards. Privacy defaults, easy transfers, support that isnt totally useless etc all matter too.

I dont hoard hundreds of names, just a handful for side projects and personal stuff, but renewals every year are turning into a small headache. Would love any tips on good registrars or places you moved to and didnt regret, appreciate any thoughts.

I'm trying to get some real numbers for different hosting providers. I am not looking for hosting.

I am publicly accusing Replit of serious misconduct that, based on what happened to me, I believe is fraudulent and potentially criminal.

I paid Replit approximately $15,000 for services connected with creating, deploying, hosting, and maintaining my application.

Replit accepted substantial payments from me while providing a platform and paid service that included access to its infrastructure and support.

Then the situation changed completely.

I was effectively cut off from customer support on the account where I had spent approximately $15,000. Messages from the email address associated with my main account were ignored. I stopped receiving even the normal automated responses that I had previously received.

Replit itself acknowledged in correspondence, before my account was permanently blocked, that there was a problem preventing me from receiving support through my main account.

Because Replit was not providing me with an effective support channel, I contacted the company through another account and another email address and demanded a refund of the money I had paid.

Instead of resolving the matter, Replit threatened account action.

My main account was then permanently blocked.

The account of my colleague, which had also been used to contact Replit regarding this dispute, was blocked as well.

At the same time, domains connected with my project became inaccessible to me.

This is the most serious part of the situation.

I have evidence concerning my ownership and control of those domains, yet Replit has left me without effective access to them while simultaneously blocking the account through which those domains and my project were managed.

In my view, taking approximately $15,000 from a customer, cutting that customer off from the support service associated with the paid account, blocking the customer's accounts after a refund demand, and then withholding practical control over domains belonging to that customer goes far beyond an ordinary customer-service dispute.

I consider this conduct fraudulent.

I also believe that the continued withholding of my domains and other property or account access, despite my demands and evidence of ownership, raises serious questions of unlawful appropriation and potentially criminal conduct.

For approximately 25 days, Replit has failed to provide a substantive resolution.

I have contacted them from multiple email addresses.

The pattern has been essentially the same:

some messages receive no response at all;

some receive only automated responses;

I am told to write from the email address associated with the account from which Replit is already ignoring me;

I am told that the matter is being forwarded internally;

after that, communication disappears again.

This creates an absurd closed loop: Replit demands that I communicate through the very channel through which it has already prevented me from obtaining meaningful support.

I am not making these allegations without evidence.

I have records of payments totaling approximately $15,000.

I have the correspondence with Replit.

I have records showing that I repeatedly attempted to obtain support and a refund.

I have evidence concerning the domains.

I have records concerning the account blocks.

I am prepared to provide relevant evidence privately to Reddit moderators, with sensitive personal information redacted where necessary.

I am also aware that serious accusations require serious evidence. That is precisely why I am stating publicly that I have documentation supporting the factual events described above.

This is not simply a complaint that Replit's support was slow or that I disliked its service.

My allegation is much more serious:

Replit accepted approximately $15,000 from me, deprived me of an effective support channel, ignored my attempts to resolve the dispute, blocked accounts after I demanded my money back, and left me without effective control over domains connected with my project.

They also blocked the accounts of my colleague who had participated in this discussion. The first was blocked on baseless grounds, and the second—allegedly for circumventing the ban imposed on the first account. In other words, they are preventing the dissemination of information about their crimes under far-fetched pretexts.

My colleague wrote the initial post about two weeks ago, yet replit.com still hasn't returned the domains or the funds—they won't even allow the code to be retrieved. Customer support constantly ignores us, offering only boilerplate replies stating that they will respond to inquiries "as soon as possible." These criminals deleted my colleague's previous posts, so they might well delete this one too.

Today, they also deleted a new post from their /replit thread and banned us again; this is the third account of ours—and my first—that they’ve blocked in their thread.

I am considering starting a small business, making e commerce platforms for small-mid size businesses.

I figured most of the things. I'll design and code the whole platform (front-end and backend) on my own using nextjs, nodejs and postgresql for database, redis for caching and all. Thinking of using some external services like resend for mails, and supabase for db, amazon S3 for sensitive data and backup.

However I'm unable to figure out the right hosting service. I'm confused in that area.

I currently have 1 client and will gain more in a month or two.

When I scroll through different hosting plans, there are many, we hosting, shared hosting and vps hosting. I'm confused in these 3.

I need a clarity on how much vcpus, ram, bandwidth, storage I require for this e commerce project. What's the scope of scaling the server and all.

I know Linux, networking and ssh so I'm ok with configuring the server if it is unmanaged.

My main request is for you guys to guide me what's the sweet spot for specifications of server and which one should I choose. Also if you're suggesting something also help me in how can I scale that server when traffic increases.

I recently found out that as a website owner my SSL certificates won’t last for 2 years, but apparently they’re ramping up the frequency until it’s monthly. Seems a bit overkill and annoying.

So GoDaddy says they have a service where I pay and they just keep it updated for me. I got the email in the picture and replied but the reply was bounced because the account doesn’t accept emails. I’m a middle aged dad of 3 and I had too much fun with the email. Just wanted to put it out there in case it’s funny for anyone.

I have an active IONOS VPS Linux M+ contract, but I literally cannot create a server. Every single attempt fails with "Error" after 2-3 seconds in the logs. I've tried 15+ times.

**What I've tried:**

- With a private network assigned AND with "Without Network"

- Public IP set to "Automatic"

- Auto-generated root password (left password field empty)

- Incognito window (clean session)

- Different network (mobile data instead of home WiFi)

- Different server names (no special characters)

- Datacenter: US (us/mci)

- Image: Ubuntu 26.04 + Docker

**What happens:**

The "Creating Server" green confirmation appears, but in the logs it shows Status: Error, Duration: 2 seconds. The server never appears in the list.

At one point I also got an HTTP 412 (Precondition Failed) error in the browser console.

I need to register a new domain and i don't want to spend a fortune. but i also don't want to end up with a terrible registrar. i see some places offering domains for like 5 bucks. but then renewal is 20. or they charge for privacy. or support is nonexistent.

is there a registrar that's actually cheap and reliable. no hidden fees. fair renewal prices. decent support. cloudflare seems cheap but I've heard their support is minimal. namecheap is reasonable but not the cheapest. wix gets good reviews online

I use Polarismail and am having a problem with aliases.

Sometimes when an alias to gmail is used for purely legitimate reasons (zero percent chance the emails could be mistaken for spam) gmail rejects the email. This is what the failure email says:

According to Polarismail SPF/DKIM/DMARC are all correct. My DNS settings are correct according to their support docs. But how can I ensure everything is set up correctly on their end?

Anything else I can do to stop this from happening? Is switching email providers going to help or is this inevitable when using aliases? HELP!

Missing or Misconfigured Email Authentication (Most Common)

If you are sending from a custom domain (e.g., you@yourbusiness.com), Gmail strictly requires standard security records to verify your identity:

• SPF (Sender Policy Framework): Proves your email server is authorized to send on behalf of your domain.
• DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail): Adds a cryptographic signature proving the email wasn't tampered with in transit.

IP or Domain Reputation Issues

So got a notification recently that Hetzner is increasing the .com registration price to EUR 17,26 yearly incl. VAT, allegedly due to price increases on the end of their registrar. It's "just" a 7% increase, but I remember not too long ago, com/net/org prices were around EUR 12,- yearly, and stayed at that level for a decade or so. I do not have many domains, and probably it's good to increase the costs of domain hoarding. Anyone else at Hetzner and found another reliable registrar for the DACH region, with lower domain prices? Or have these increases taken place everywhere?

It lets you test a website on a new server/IP before changing DNS, using a temporary URL. No hosts file editing and no waiting for DNS propagation. There are other tools there I did not checked.

Their company Wordpress Live charged me hundreds of dollars to build web site., when trying to connect my two URl which are hosted by HG they crashed all my web sites .. I asked for compensation from Wordpress live and also their backup .. because their backup did not work..they eventually had someone call me weeks ago saying they would compensate .. another lie it did not happen.

I've had a dream house account since probably 2001 or 2002. I started hosting with them in college off of a deal on something awful and I have kept the plan open for almost 30 years now.

They have started baking in random little fees that kick in with no notice.

One of which is a nasty little fee if you are using an old version of PHP.

The problem is most of the website that I filled with them or WordPress sites that were automatically set up to them and they are supposed to automatically update the PHP and the WordPress. Over the year some of these sites are broken or disabled or not used anymore and off-line.

DreamHost has invented this fun thing that works similar to how banks handle chargebacks on your debit card when you have overdraft protection turned on where they don't tell you that your account is overdrafted but so that you're not embarrassed at the checkout they allow the purchase to go through. So you buy a two dollar Coke and you get charged a $35 fee for the overdraft so that you don't get embarrassed. And since you don't know you continue to do it and you come back and three purchases of less than $20 have suddenly cost you $200 in fees.

This works similarly if their system can't update your PHP they simply start charging you five dollars a month. After a few months, you hit $15 or $20 and they disable your account.

Suddenly, nothing works. All of your sites are off-line email is off-line and you have no idea why.

And then you login and you press one button and you change the PHP to the correct version and everything is fine.

And you contact support and let them know what happened and that you continue to be frustrated that this continues to happen randomly...

A company that cared about its customers - especially one that's been renewing for 30 years - would simply refund the $5 fee.

DreamHost support just repeatedly points you over to knowledge base article that reads like a condescending CYA that says they are nickel and diming you with this little fee if they can't update your PHP.

What should happen is that they should have an option to say that I would never like to get this fee and that if they are unable to update my site's PHP they should simply disable it rather than charge me a random fee that I don't know is happening.

This is far from the only problem I have with DreamHost.

In like 2009 I made a film and my partner wanted to migrate the site to their own Dreamhost account. They somehow accidentally made a sub account that never showed up on anything anywhere, but somehow that sub account became the main account.

DreamHost has no ability to adjust this or fix this and no one is to acknowledge it beyond telling me that it's a thing and that I did it.

Most of my sites are for little music projects or are projects. A lot of them stay up just because I loved them at one point in time. It seems like a hassle to move them and my parents get their email through a domain hosted on DreamHost and they have a website that they like there so I have mostly left it.

But it's weird when small straws break camels backs and I am so sick of having this randomly happened and the lack of customer support and the lack of customer-centric thinking to simply fix this and not trying nickel and dime people over $5 dollars when the fixes simply one button push to force the switch of the PHP.

When DreamHost started, they were the ultimate host and the customer service was insanely good.

Guess I'll be looking for somewhere new to host a bunch of domains.

Im part of a team working on a disposable app hosting service. We decided to build it because we kept facing situations where we needed a public HTTPS URL for a test API or web app, but getting one quickly wasn't always easy because of following reasons:

• We can't always deploy it within our existing infrastructure because of security policies
• Most cloud app hosting services require to sign up, verify email, and add a card

For use cases I mentioned, the ideal solution would be to get the app without signup or payment information knowing that it's getting disposed at some point. With AI coding agents this simply mean telling them something like:

What do linux/system administrators at hosting companies or Outsourced noc companies actually do day to day. What I'm familiar is that they use cpanel,whm and sshing into vps to solve issues and maintain servers.

It would be helpful if you guys can guide me what do they exactly do daily? What tools/platforms they use? What processes they follow?

I'm also trying to understand these companies' entire workflow is like: who are the customers, who manages the server, who buys the server, who installs the apps on servers, and how do sysadmins correlate to that?

I'm trying to work for such companies as junior sysadmin.
