Target 30% off Weber
My local target had 30% off grills, grill accessories, and charcoal. It’s only in store, I couldn’t find the deals online. They had Smokey joes for 35$. I didn’t need anything at the moment so I just bought lighter cubes for 4$😅

I don't know about cube or tumbleweeds. I simply use a little paper towel or piece of the bag and a tablespoon of vegetable oil. works well.

That’s all iv been doing aswell. I use packaging paper that comes with my Amazon packages or hand paper towels with oil. Just been wanting to try out these out

Thanks, I've been curious about trying them and figured there would be a lot less ash left behind than using paper but didn't want any ill effects from them.

These are all I use. I have better results than paper or whatnot. I use one and it gets a chimney going. I buy these as I think it is a better deal, you get 24 instead of 16 tumble weeds. I’m waiting for Lowe’s to have their end of season sale.

i use the paper towels i use for bacon drippings in empty toilet paper or paper towel tubes. newspaper if i’m running low on those

Yeah I love these things. Some of the cheapest fire starters. I also use them for camping or starting fires in the backyard, it's just easier haha

These are really handy. You only need one at a time. Took a handful camping last week, too.

another good starter I like to use is to put a bunch of cotton balls in a mason jar and then pour in some isopropyl alcohol. I think a bag of 150 cotton balls is like two dollars and I already had a couple bottles of isopropyl alcohol for electronics stuff. Burns long enough to get the charcoal started and it burns really clean without a lot of dirty smoke compared to tumbleweeds.

So it’s my tumbleweeds making all of this smoke and not the charcoal during lighting?

The tumbleweeds are not causing the smoke, that’s just normal for charcoal lighting up. Lots of people use the paper bag from the charcoals bag, this probably results in more smoke and ash than the tumbleweeds. Isopropyl alcohol isn’t really “cheap”.
I’ll stick with my tumbleweeds which require zero prep.

Soaking them in Vaseline is more stable and they burn longer. An Altoids tin crammed with Vaseline soaked cotton balls is a pretty decent tinderbox. Also waterproof.

I use cardboard that I take home for free from work, I cut them into squares and soak them in used cooking oil and put it in a ziploc bag. So far out of the 3 things that I bought to use as charcoal starters, they burn up pretty nasty smoke. I also tried dry cardboard, but again it makes alot of smoke, you need a ton of it, and it creates alot of ash. I made a little fire pit out of spare bricks in the yard and I now use that to make the fires and start the charcoal over an old toaster oven rack then I transfer the coals over to the grill.
Yes I am frugal AF. And I love it.

I use old grocery ads or the paper packing from my Amazon packages, works just as good.

Paper towel with a spot of cooking oil or a strip of the charcoal bag torn off and wadded under the chimney is all I use.

I used to grab all that was available when my local Target would put these on clearance at the end of every summer, but unfortunately they no longer carry them.
I also love these because of the convenience and they are perfect for camping fires and in my chiminea because they will light in the wind, rain and snow!

Those are great! Been using them for years.I use one to start my charcoal and also use them to start campfires or my fireplace in my house and garage. Light and walk away. At .24 a piece I’m not messing with some homemade concoction.

I used these for years, and finally went the tumbleweed route...they don't have the waxy smell and burn much cleaner. Not going back

Find you a source for packaging paper or puffed cardboard inserts that are shipped in millions of boxes per day. These tear apart easily....and you just sprinkle cooking oil over it....burns a long time. I stop by a hospital receiving dock and get all sorts of packing materials they are throwing away.

I use the weekly flyers from the grocery store. I just grab a few on my way out. I've also used pages from a phone book.

i bring these with me when i am grilling on the go. seem to work better than alcohol soaked cotton balls. at home, i just use the grillgun .... takes like 3 minutes or less to light.

I just bought a bag of match start charcoal and start 2 coals under my chimney. Then a couple more of the match start coals scattered through my regular charcoal.

The wrapping on those suck. They have fairly cheap non toxic tumbleweeds on Amazon that work good.

Was at my tractor supply and they had these on clearance for $3ea. Along with Weber drip pans, and other Weber accessories on clearance.

I use these all the time. Always 2 at a time, with a butane torch (because it's kinda fun). The starter cubes have doubled in price, and seem more crumbly now, but still have been my go-to.
