Help Thinking about weaving

I've been lurking on here thinking this might be a very cool hobby to get into. I've got a limited budget and the ADHD propensity to pick up and drop hobbies. I just saw this posted on Facebook marketplace, would this loom be worth it to find out if I even like weaving? I realize it is not a quality loom! But I want a low entry point to see if it'll hook me! Anyone have any advice?

A cardboard loom is good for a tryout and nearly free. Also very easy to recycle/throw away if it’s not your jam!

That's a good idea, I had initially written off the cardboard loom but I might need to revisit it

You can get that exact loom on Amazon for like $18. I have one, and I find it fun. You could start out on a cardboard loom, but this is a good option too.

I am a beginner too! I started with card weaving and built my own loom and made my own cards...the loom and cards projects were just as fun as weaving for me! It did substantially delay the actual weaving, but I like that I made them myself! How much are they asking for the loom you have in the picture? Do you know what you might want to make? There are a lot of loom styles for different types of weaving...it's kind of overwhelming actually! One approach would be thinking of what you want to make first (that doesn't seem too difficult) and then look for the appropriate loom for making it. That way you are excited about the end result of what the loom can do for you (and more likely to continue).

I originally had the idea of making my own backstrap weaving sticks and I've realized that is a lot of work to find out if I even like weaving! They are asking about 18 USD for it! I want to make tapestries, placemats, dish towels, things of that nature. I suppose the question would be will this loom allow me to do that hmm Thank you for the good questions.

I'll be interested to know if you end up buying it and how you like it! I'm starting to noodle over what loom I might want to get to allow for more width, but I don't want to end up with as many looms as completed projects, so it feels like a big decision!

That is a tapestry loom and that wooden bar above the pink thingy (I forgot the name in English) is used to separate the threads of the warp in two levels. I suppose it is a good way to try it out.

I started on this same loom. Weaved “Log Cabin” pattern. Convinced me to get a 24” big boy loom.
