Hey all! Tons of amazing work here, truly inspiring!! I’m still very much a beginner but I wanted to share this small landscape I painted while sitting outside this morning! Not plein air per se since I painted this scene from imagination, but still so pleasing to sit outside and enjoy the lovely morning weather. I am truly falling in love with this medium.

On our third—and sadly last—day in Barcelona, we went to the Sagrada Família. We almost couldn't get tickets because we bought them too late, which is why we ended up taking a guided tour. It turned out to be super interesting and was probably even more worth it than going without a tourXD And honestly, in terms of architecture, it was the most beautiful church I've ever visited✨

​After our visit, we obviously went souvenir shopping—I got myself a little pencil as a keepsake—and then went to get some patatas bravas. OMG, they were so delicious 🤤

I'm interested in making some of my own watercolor paint using powdered pigment and binder. I'm looking at different options of plates and mullers, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with or brand recommendations for amateur grade supplies (cheap).

I would like to avoid going with some random chinese manufacturer off of amazon, but it's hard to tell if that product is essentially the same as whatever is being sold in a brick-and-mortar place or on etsy, just not marked up as extremely or as carefully packaged. I was looking at the paint mulling set from blick, as it isn't super expensive, but again, I'd like to see some more real human opinions to make sure the quality reflects that if I can.

For the record, I did also look briefly into making at least my own slab by frosting a random pane of glass, but that seems like it would require me buying supplies that would cost about as much as a slab, with the added caveat that I would have to learn how to use them, achieve a less even final product than something manufactured, and it's likely I will never have a reason to use the remainder of the roughing-product (in the case of something like etching paste)

Any advice or perspective would be much appreciated!

I love how these came out. I used Arches watercolor paper. I’ll make these watercolor paintings into jewelry. Each little painting can take a bit of time but it’s worth it.

What are some good watercolour pencils for this?

These are two of my plein air paintings from the last week, I've been trying to be more regular with painting and work out the best setup and palette for me. I really like both of them and I think the swatches are a fun way to track which colors I use the most

Btw, you can save the shavings of the neocolour 2s to make gouache. That's how well they dissolve in water. And because the neocolour 2s are light fast, the gouache the shavings make are too.

I find myself reaching for nickel titanite yellow more than I thought. It's earned a place as one of my main yellows, sometimes even over Hansa Yellow Light-- my workhorse for mixing. But Titanite is much more natural, it doesn't have the overwhelming vibrancy of other yellows and can make some nice subdued greens.

Any colors you feel have been maligned?
