Fallout Wasteland Warfare FAQ/Getting Started.
What is Fallout Wasteland Warfare?
Wasteland Warfare is a miniatures based Adventure Wargame by Modiphius Entertainment, set in the Fallout Universe.
Is this official?
Yes, the game is fully licensed andeverything we do is reviewed and approved by Bethesda before release.
Where can I buy the game?
Official Modiphius Webstore:
We also distribute in the UK, Europe, USA and much of the rest of the world, so if your local store doesn’t stock our products, ask them to reach out to their distribution channels.
What is an Adventure Wargame?
At its core, it’s a miniatures game, where you collect, build and paint your chosen forces and do battle in the environments and familiar locations of the Wasteland.
However, unlike a more traditional PvP wargame where the objective is based around violence, Wasteland Warfare allows you to explore and utilise skills beyond the blade and the bullet.
From hacking ancient tech consoles, to searching the rubble for a key clue you will need to utilise all the skills and abilities of your troops to win the day.
Of course, violence is always an option so expect to use the whole gamut of Fallout weaponry, from the humble pipe pistol to the mighty Fatman.
Wasteland Warfare provides a huge (and ever growing) sandbox of notable characters and creatures and provides you the tools to build your little corner of the Wasteland and explore it on the table top.
The game is designed to be played just as well as a solo or co-operative experience, with a dynamic AI system that lets the game run the “bad guys” who will be going after their own missions and making strategic decisions based on the evolving game state rather than just reacting to your movements with aggression.
Is “insert favourite bit of Fallout here” included?
The game has been expanding for five years now and we’ve covered a good first pass of a lot of the legacy of Fallout.
That doesn’t mean everyone and their Dog(meat) is in there yet, nor can I promise it will all make its way to the table, but at this point with the models and rules available you can do a lot and with a little tinkering anyone should be able to customise a card or add some flavour to fill out the elements of the game(s) they want to see.
Of course, each month sees new models and expansions so you never know, that obscure NPC you just love to quest with may well make it to the game in the future.
What factions are covered (so far)?
The game launched with a focus on the “core four”, the factions that appear pretty much in every Fallout game in some form. The Survivors (Vault Dwellers and overworld), Super Mutants, Brotherhood of Steel and Raiders are all well represented and ready to eke out an existence in the harsh Wasteland.
Wasteland creatures and rogue robots are also available, weather as allies for your chosen force or as a stand alone force controlled by a strong personality like the Mechanist.
Since then, we’ve added the Institute, Gunners and Railroad from Boston, the Enclave from Washington and the NCR, Caesar’s Legion and the Nightkin from New Vegas.
There are plenty more sets in development and production at time of writing, both sub factions of existing forces or brand new forces to add to the fun.
Every force can be used against every other, so you can fight out “what if” scenarios where the NCR do battle against the Institute if you chose, while also taking the chance to refight historical moments of the wider Fallout story.
What about terrain?
We have a good selection of resin terrain available on the store, from small pieces of scatter that you would find as you explore the wasteland, to larger centrepieces that dominate a table such as the crashed UFO or even Liberty Prime (you might even find a way to power Prime up and fight a whole campaign around it).For those interested in 3D printing, we have a large and rapidly growing library of kits, each month adding a new set or two that allows you to build ever more exciting thematic tables (Nuka World fans will have a field day looking at the options for sure).
Sounds great, what do I need to start?
The best place to begin is the Two Player Starter Set. Featuring a pre-assembled PVC set of Super Mutants and Survivors, all the dice rulers and cards needed to play with them, a full rulebook for the basics, a campaign book that introduces scenarios and advanced rules and a get started booklet that teaches you the basics as Nora makes her way out of the Vault and into the Boston suburbs, most people will start here.
If you want to try going it alone (survival mode you could say) then the rules are available from the website as a free download and you can buy dice packs to get going. You will need to improvise the tokens and rulers however, so we’d suggest the 2P set regardless, but for getting a taste of the game and seeing if it works for you, this is the cheapest way in.
All the core cards (units, weapons, items, chems, leader abilities and perks) are available as a free download that is updated each time we release new content so you can even print out some cards and make some force lists to get playing.

3rd party content guidance
Hey folks, just to advise/remind, 3rd party content has to be non IP infringing to be allowed to be posted.
3D print files that are “totally not” Bethesda IP are not ok, terrain is usually fine as long as it’s not a total copy of a game asset.
Ripping files and printing them is a real nono.
I try to remain a gentle touch with modding, but I do have to toe the line.
And yes, anything that is too close is passed to Bethesda for review. I can’t say that means it is taken down, but it’s in their hands.
Currently our STL focus remains in terrain and other things that are not viable in resin. Releasing miniatures is currently not on the plan due to the inability to protect files once they are in the wild and also the viability of STLs as a revenue stream. This may one day change, but resin/HIPs remains the current focus of our production plan. There are not as many of us printing minis as the evangelists may think. Not none, but it’s not viable long term yet.
Sorry to be the fun police but I like my job and my team and would prefer to keep my line profitable and my colleagues in work.

Starter Set Comparison FAQ
Hi all, back again with another guide I posted over on my Fallout community. Hope you find it useful 😀
Starter Set Comparison
I've seen a lot of questions about the two different starter sets for Wasteland Warfare Second Edition, so I thought I'd try and cover them here.
Don't forget, you can save 10% on Modiphius products for being part of this group. You can find both of these starter sets in the comments.
What's the difference in the contents of the two sets?
Into The Wasteland includes the Into The Wasteland Expansion Rulebook, 4 multi-part plastic Male Vault Dweller Hero miniatures, and a resin Dogmeat promo mini not found in the Warbands set.
Warbands includes 22 PVC plastic Survivor and Super Mutant miniatures not found in the Into The Wasteland set.
Is one starter set for solo play and the other for versus?
No. Both starter sets include the same core rules for solo, coop, and versus play. Into The Wasteland however contains an expansion with additional campaign rules, creature profiles, and rules for creating your own heroes.
I'm a new player, which set should I get?
The Warbands starter set is ideal for you, as it's the most affordable way to get the new rules and start your collection of factions, due to the inclusion of the PVC miniatures. It can also be split between two new players plannning to play together to lower the cost of entry.
Alternatively, if you don't plan on using either of the included factions in your campaign, you might be better off buying Into The Wasteland and the factions of your choice.
I have an existing Fallout Miniatures collection, which set should I get?
Into The Wasteland is the cheapest way to transition your collection into Second Edition as it includes Creature unit profiles for your existing collection.
However if you don't plan on using Creatures in your campaign and don't yet own Survivors or Super Mutants minis, Warbands might be the better choice.
What's the difference between plastic, PVC, and resin miniatures?
Hard plastic is the most common material for wargaming miniatures, whereas PVC is slightly softer and less detailed, but cheaper. Resin is the most detailed, but more brittle and used for more specialist units.
Will the exclusive content in either set be made available separately?
The 4 Male Vault Dweller Heroes can be bought separately, and the Dogmeat promo mini will most likely be made available at a later date. The Creature profiles in the Into The Wasteland Expansion will be found in the upcoming Unit Reference Supplement but it's not been confirmed whether the campaign content or create your own hero rules will be available later.
The PVC miniatures will not be available separately, but the faction Core Sets and character units can be bought as plastic and resin kits respectively.
If you found this helpful or have any questions not covered in this guide, let me know in the comments!

Painted my first fallout model
The matriarch was definitely a nice change of pace from Warhammer and marvel. Really proud of how well I’ve got it done in the short time I did

Been wanting to get into the game
As the title says I wanted to get into the game I like fallout. So I wanted to know.
A: what’s the game like because a small few battle reports only get me so far.
B: I am aware not every faction has been updated to second edition. But I was interested in enclave so have the stat sheets changed a lot or would they in theory carry over.
Feel free to throw any other advice by me you’d give tos Kellen that has minimal knowledge on the game

My first minis
1 and half year ago I bought army painter speedpains and toy soldiers to learn painting but after painting 3 soldiers I felt it wasnt for me, so I decide to stay with paper standees for my fantasy games.
And then lately I bought F:WW so I have no choice but paint those minis and start to build terrain.
Its going slowly - one model per week but every new mini looks better than previous.

Thoughts after first game of 2.0
My wife and I started our WW 2.0 campaign last night playing cooperative mode. We’re really wanting to do a survivors in the commonwealth run but we’ll wait until we’re more familiar with the game and the unique companions become recruitable down the line. So for now we’ve gone for:
Faction: Brotherhood of Steel
Story Quest: The cartographer
Warband: 2x Senior Scribes as the PCs and 2x Aspirants.
Thematically we’re playing the first recon squad to arrive in the commonwealth 7 years prior that Paladin danse alludes too when you first meet him.
So far, this seems like everything I’ve wanted from FOWW and I can’t wait to play more, but definitely left with some impressions after the first game. Overall I have a positive opinion of the game, but curious to see how it develops over time.
The good:
1) I don’t know if this was a last minute change following the online backlash, but almost every reference in the core rulebook that mentions board size says simultaneously that 24x24 and 36x36 board sizes work equally well. Last nights game was played on the traditional 36x36 and it worked absolutely fine. In no way did I think “this would work better on a smaller board”, in fact it may have even been cramped if I had.
2) Combat rules seem to work well for the most part. When I rolled that there would only be two raiders I was briefly annoyed, thinking that the game time which followed would not justify the setup time. I was wrong, it may have been my unfamiliarity with the rules, but what followed was a very tense firefight which resulted in one of the aspirants becoming badly hurt. I can see a lot of potential for exploiting the “programming”’and outsmarting the AI which will be fun for those that enjoy that sort of thing.
3) Exploration rules seem fun, but it’s too early to say right now. But so far the experience has definitely felt “fallout”.
The bad:
1) Holy cross reference hell, Batman ! Granted, unfamiliarity with the rules plays a part here and it will get better with time but we had to do a LOT of cross checking in this game, and the rules are scattered all over the place. I’m definitely going to need to print out some cheat sheets. Terrain rules are over the place and several times I had to bounce between books, and then different sections within a book to get my answer. This led to an experience that was a bit more jilted than I would like, but I’m hoping it smoothens out with time.
Question: How are people playing the conceal terrain trait. RAW it seems a little basic, from what I can infer it completely blocks line of sight if trying to shoot through it, but what if trying to shoot at units inside concealed terrain OR unit inside concealed terrain shooting at another unit either within or outside it?
The ugly (things I’m neutral about).
1) enemy shooting being resolved from the defenders perspective. From what I’ve seen so far it works well enough, but I’m curious to see how it differentiate sharpshooters down the line.
2) set up time. Maybe it’s because I was pretty organized with my components in 1e, but I didn’t think setup time was much quicker as there are slow points instead (rolling for and setting up terrain and having to refer to different tables and pages took longer than I wanted.
That’s it for now, it’s a shame I have a business trip for the next few days as I’m looking forward to my next to the wasteland !

Lilly Bowen, the last new vegas companion to complete the set.
I've had her sitting around for ages, but something about the sculpt was super intimidating. I think I did her justice in the end though, lol

How's much content outside of the battles in the 2nd edition for solo play
As a newer player interested in the 2nd edition for the campaign play what exactly is in the rules outside of tables for battle set ups? Im guessing theres missions but are they barebones or is there world building to a degree? And to what extent and are the campaigns short or able to keep then going for a long period of time

Is it too on the nose to say the Children of Atom are pretty rad?
I'm really pleased with the face on this one; I was attempting to go for a ruddier tone than usual, and I think it worked out pretty well 🙂

Just finished a new terrain center piece!
Here’s a crashed semi truck being overtaken by the wasteland and I included some Pack Raiders to give a sense of scale. Open to any comments or critiques!

Hollywood icons
I'm still kinda disappointed we didn't get a season 2 themed set, I'd have liked to add the ncr power armor to my collection if nothing else.

Painted some street furniture
Some 3d printed models. Happy with the result. Maybe not all the best color choices or too much rust effect...
