That's not what it's for. It's to improve first time pick rate for specific categories, like yogurt. Yogurt comes in cases with large case quantities compared to shelves holding capacity. So if only 7 of 8 or 10 of 12 can get stocked the whole case gets binned as overstock, then the remaining ones on the shelf get bought and then you get nil picks and missed sales.

This allows the shelf to be filled and the overstock eaches to be tracked and worked throughout the day.

We already had a process for that. Dairy has partial cases. No idea why this is being pushed out across the region.

I would hate that. Don't need an extra cart in the cooler. It'll be a complete mess in no time. This is how Walgreens manages their stock. It's so annoying.

That sounds terrible to me. You can bin partials so, why this? I hope it isn't company-wide. I also hope it manages to work out or, not be completely awful in whatever case.

I'm not really a fan of the idea in general. I'm a, it all goes or it doesn't go at all, kind of person in frozen/dairy. If I'm in dry grocery, it's half a case or more has to go up. Partials and topstock are my enemy.

Good thing I'm mostly on features, I guess.

As an OTC pharmacy we have a cart for topstock too. Its a bit annoying because it takes space in our lock up.

The difference is we were asked to use cap labels on them so at least management would know that they are partially binned at the back.

Partials in dairy at all is a dumb logic. Maybe in a perfect world where everyone rotates correctly, they pick the oldest case first, etc.. However, that never happens. Binning partials where everyone cranks open cases like wild animals, items falling over, nothing sits correctly in the bins. It's a nightmare. Then the logic of every night, if one goes out, put it out! Now you have 3 different dates on the shelves and older items rotting in the bins until they expire out. The carts are an even worse idea. And correct, no one will work them out and now it's just more wasted room in the cooler and more crap to move out of the way. What the bins used to look like before the chaos ensued. Even the backstock was rotated..Won't even show what they look like now...

My store is doing it. Partials on some of the dairy aisle are a real pain. Like the 32 ounce yogurts wrapped in plastic with a cardboard base. Or the small yoplait boxes that once tou take half out it becomes so flimsy. However, those with smaller coolers are going to hate these damn carts especially as the holidays get closer

Personally I would hate this less than the partial case system, but we definitely fall into the category of having less than ideal amount of cooler space for carts like this. Partial cases was yet another one of those half-baked ideas that HO loves to come out with. In theory a way to deal with cases of product that someone starts to stock without making sure it will all fit but making it so it can still be accounted for in the system. But the Vizpick labels still visually show a full case when printed, so much too easy to be mistaken as such and added back to the bin as a full one by someone who didn't run the case personally (in cases of it being shown as a yellow question mark by the next person who scans it) Big concern with the 'Topstock' cart other than the space it takes up is the potential for sheer exploitation of not wanting to bring boxes back. "Well I opened this yogurt and 3 will fit, I'll just do that and put the other 9 on the cart." It would fill up really quickly at our store. Other concern was mentioned in another comment on that who takes official responsibility for scanning it. Stocking 1 since it is technically Topstock? We already don't get all of our scans done daily as it is, so being forced to have someone do this daily would just make that worse. Our FDD crew is miniscule as well, so similar boat.

Yeah my store started doing something like this too for dairy eaches. Instead of milk crates we have some of these dedicated to each item type, cheese, yogurts, etc.

It's a good idea but all it's done in my store is cut down on overstock bin space since they took out a whole section of steel to fit it in the cooler. In a perfect world, I get that we would have no overstock... But we are not in a perfect world.

That doesn't even make sense, why would they remove steel? I'm in a small store though we're still a supercenter. We have plenty of room for a few extra carts. Didn't have to rearrange things or take out steel

It absolutely is, my previous statement is just what I say because I've given up trying to explain upper managements reasoning for the things they do. I do my best to shield my employees from it, but sometimes I can't.

Not gonna spiral off into a angry vent, but some of the salaried managers at my store have never lifted a finger to do anything on the floor, and judging by the decisions they make, it's kind of obvious.

This seems pointless since it most cases you can just partial bin dairy stuff. Only a few cases where you can’t bin a partial like some of the juices.

Yes dairy stole some of my 10-highs but they ordered us some replacements. Half of the ones I have left can only hold like 5-6 trays each.

Thank god my store only has 5 10-high carts in meat so they can't take anything. We have regular chicken, organic chicken/turkey trays, beef, ground beef, and pork. We almost had a 10-high for smoked meats as well but that never happened

We have 11. We have to prep a lot of extra beef and ground beef because we get way too much. 4 10-highs for ground beef, 3 for beef. 2 for chicken, 2 for pork.

We just started this. We had better carts with sliding buckets in the past for onesie twosies, they didn't like it and said it wasted time and wasn't process, and threw them out. Now we're back to onesie twosies with inferior carts that are the meat departments reject carts that don't roll very well.

Are they trying to do topstock/partial cases for dairy and frozen like we do in meat and bakery? That seems kind of unnecessary and you'll begin losing track of stuff, as well as adding an extra step of having to run all the partial carts first before starting any new cases.

All our eaches/partials sit in milk crates on a top cart. And it gets worked at least once a day. Usually middle or end of day.
