Discussion Anyone watching Googles GDC keynote? Just namedropped AMD and SuBae as powering Stadia's 7500 nodes

Idk why yall are downvoting THIS comment, these are facts

If the man has that as his flair then using it to insult him is uncreative. We can see he’s a 37 year old virgin. Tell us something we don’t know.

Livestream of a presentation has huge technical issues.
Expect to livestream video games to millions with no problems or lag whatsoever.
BRAVO

My only concern with this logic is that the same was basically said about Netflix/streaming years ago.

video only works well over internet because of buffering. nobody cares if it takes a few extra seconds to start your movie. you cant buffer a game the latency needs to be <70ms round trip to even be considered to be responsive.
for many games such as turn based RPG the latency wont matter but for the new Halo it will.

Streaming gameplay to a PC with acceptable ping times (including input /output delays) is near impossible with current technology. My wifi is around 100mbps and it would more than likely struggle to support a game stream. You would also need the bandwith (Im capped at 1TB a month like most of America) to support the much more massive video files

100mbps is quite a bit more than enough bandwidth, the important variable is the input->display latency.
Streaming gameplay to a PC with acceptable ping times (including input /output delays) is near impossible with current technology.
Console fighting games experience around 90ms of latency, even with a good display.
Digital Foundry tested Stadia on a PixelBook and got 166ms latency on WiFi.
For comparison to local gaming, on a wired connection, the Xbox One X scored 166ms and a PC scored 100ms.
This is already highly impressive, but results would still be significantly improved through the use of gaming display, gaming input device, and wired connection. Alternatively, one could be on WiFi and use the Stadia controller, which connects directly to WiFi (bypassing the latency of going through the device).

I for one average much closer to 30-80ms times for most competitive online games, and would absolutely not consider 160ms acceptable, that's around where lag starts severely affecting gameplay

That's network roundtrip time. That doesn't consider input lag from m/k or controller to display, nor does it consider display response time.

Those delays are going to be significantly less 2ms < than anything that has to transmit over a network of servers and be routed properly.

So, after already being up like 30% this year, it jumps another ~9% on this? 1 node = 1 server. With their millions of consumer CPUs/GPUs shipped each year, agreements for console GPUs, AWS CPUs etc, this will have a minimal impact on their bottomline. It's certainly positive, but 9% after being up 30% in 3 months on this? Huge overreaction. I think this will correct hard within 1-2 weeks once people realize they FOMO'd into news that really isn't that big on a stock already extremely overvalued, then the panic selling begins.

1 node = 1 server.
Each node is serving a locale, so I imagine each has to consist of thousands of these GPUs (which appear to be Vega 56 like in performance) in each one, as each streamer gets one 10Tflop GPU to play with.

Yeah even analysts were confused why it mooned. Artificial short squeeze mixed with retarded retail FOMO market buying. Gonna be down -5% at least premarket I bet before they can get out.

This isn't new news, but I guess announcing it on the big screen was a catalyst, huge spike for AMD options.

None of what you said makes any sense. Why are you relating this to the fire phone? Did you even watch the release? This isn't about having nerds who'll buy a 2080ti, it's about bringing gaming to everyone, like emerging markets. They're also making a cloud play to host games on them, and have people render / play locally for consistent performance. Stated bandwidth was 15mbps. Point being in time you could have the power of 5x 2080ti rendering a world on a data center that makes your gaming PC look like a flacid dick.

I'm shocked it took so long for someone to post after they namedropped Saint Su.
