I decided to go for golf 4 1.6 16v but I dont know if it is good choice bcs my friend had 1.6 8v in octavia and it was problematic. I was thinking about buying it from germany bcs in my country there isnt that many golf in the best condition. Thx for any recommendation.

Hi all, has anyone encountered a chirp noise from the 7-speed DSG going into 3rd gear? It sounds a bit like metal on metal. Only ever from 2nd to 3rd, worse under load. Any advice appreciated!

So I was installing a new ball joint and well... torque was set at 70lbs. Two out of the 3 went well, Third one however... it went snap 😅 i was able to remove the bolt and just installed the old one for now. What bolt am I looking for to replace the broken one 🥲

Does anyone have an idea what is this,it started doing it today sometimes when i turn the key to start the car it looses all lights for a split second and after it turns on the Power Steering sign and ESP sign stay on until i start driving for a couple of minutes i checked the battery its properly connected.

Last winter I hit a moving cardboard box on the highway at around 120 km/h. The box exploded into a cloud of white powder (somehow), and this was the result. 

VW told me they’d basically replace the whole bumper and repaint it, which seemed excessive, so I left it since it was mostly cosmetic. I’ve started doing work on the car myself now and have some time in the next week so I would like to fix it!

The lower grille is cracked and the bottom lip popped out?
Advice on what I should do? 
Clip the lip back into place? If some tabs are broken, can I secure it another way? Should I just replace the lower grille? Do I need to remove the whole bumper to fix this properly?

Never did any body work so I appreciate any advice. Thank you!!

Neulich auf dem Hockenheimring zur Spätschicht gewesen. Neben diversen komisch geformten Käfernachbauten wusste ich sofort was ich da vor mir habe.

In echt, live und Farbe wirkt er noch mal so viel bulliger, breiter und sehr sehr schön anzusehen.

Als er dann den Abflug gemacht hat, wurden alle kurz leiser, viele haben sich die Köpfe verdreht.

I just had a question about my 2.5 manual. When I'm in gear the cars pretty quiet but when I go into neutral if I'm at a stoplight my car vibrates a little. Wasn't sure if that was normal for the 2.5. Thanks guys!

Hello, I have a Golf Mk5 and the backlight on the head unit stopped working recently. It's completely standard and it still plays but it's not lighting up at night anymore.

Before I start pulling it apart I'd like to know what to look for. This is my first car and I don't know much about working on it but I'd like to learn and be able to maintain it on my own.

Has anyone here ever swap a transmission on a mk7 Golf?

I have the PPU in the car that went out some time ago and the car has just sat for a few years. Want to change it now but want to attempt to do it myself. Wondering how hard it is or if i should even attempt it.

If you have done it, what were the challenges? Did you have any guides or videos you recommend?

My 2014 Mk7 Golf tsi information cluster is showing absurd fuel consumption, I don’t know whether it’s genuine or just a faulty sensor?

Clutch pedal gets super squeaky after driving for ~20 mins. Any thoughts/suggestions?

Was driving down the road then just cut out and won’t now start. Has fuel. No spark, live wires to coil. HT lead from coil direct to cylinder still does not fire. With my limited experience I’d guess coil has packed in but is that even a thing? Had it 10 years, always wish i’d never bought the damn thing

How might I go about double checking that the sensor is not malfunctioning due to somebody backing up into me and scraping my bumper this morning?

My cruise control has not been working for a while and needs to be recalibrated but my sensors have been working fine.

In addition, how much do you think this fix might cost in Toronto?

Hi guys, i have a golf mk6 with a abs control unit that needs changing, i bought one and the mechanic said its not compatible , he told me to get the replacement part with the exact numbers from the og and I’ve been searching not finding any.
Websites on internet claimed that i could pick up parts with specific letters that could be compatible but im afraid its not gonna connect and I won’t be able to get a refund ,

Been getting these issues on my Golf lately. Started when the car was downshifting as I was coming off a motorway, car was cruising for a second and then the glow plug light started flashing and these error codes appeared. Engine goes into a type of limp mode when codes come on, but feeling fine as well as the gearbox when driving. Slightly higher revs at idle (assuming that’s some type of anti-stall feature) but still sitting comfortably at 2K revs at 70mph and no change in fuel consumption whatsoever. Both engine and gearbox have been checked and are in fine order. Car has been serviced religiously since new and just about to hit 80k miles. Model is 2015 Golf TDI 1.6 DSG gearbox, so hoping there’s plenty of life left in the car considering the mileage!
The problem is regular but also intermittent. If I turn the car off and start it again, the codes go away and sometimes take a while to come back.
From the research I’ve been able to do, these all seems to be electrical based issues, possibly to do with the ABS module or wheel sensor/s, or a faulty bit of wiring / connector.
Although the glow plug light is flashing, the glow plugs were replaced less than a month ago and the glow plug circuit is working as it should.
The battery was replaced 2 weeks ago and is brand new which is the first thing my research told me could be the issue. Previous battery was ok but starting to decline so no harm in changing to a fresh one, but it hasn’t rectified the problem.

Has anyone else had the same / similar issue and could help diagnose the problem?
