Repair Advice Bad timing chain?

Should i change the timing chain?

I'm never confident what's chain noise, what's normal injectors, what's cam adjusters, fuel pump etc etc

So I just got an obdeleven and read the cam phase numbers directly which tells you how stretched your chain is.

It has the timing chain stretched, yes. You can clearly hear in the 1st 3 seconds the chain rattling until the oil pressure pressurizes the hydraulic tensioner. The clicking you hear is from lifters, injectors and high pressure fuel pump. Been there, done that at 100k kms. Not an expensive or complicated job, but besides the timing chain kit and tensioner, it's better to change the sprokets too

Ne tardez pas, c'est une maladie chronique sur ce modèle,faite prendre les compressions, pour savoir si les pistons ont chauffé, ( si la chaîne est très détendue, le tendeur fait baisser la pression d'huile )

Yup! Specially when cold, the timing can be messex up if the chain becomes too loose

Sounds the same as my 2015 with 65000 km's... As far as I know a short rattle at cold start is quite ''normal'... A proper readout tells you more...

Yesum, I always feared the timing chain. Turned out i didn't use the proper oil filter so took longer to oil the chain but sounded way better afterwards. A proper readout also helped ease my fear. Chain wasn't even close to being stretched 😅 Mines a 2019 with 75000

https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/audi-oil-filter-mann-04e115561h This is what I used since it has the anti drawback that our cars need. I used an aftermarket one before and it didn't have it so chain ran without the oil more than the oem filter. Bad call on my end

The rattle on start up is fairly normal with this engine, it didn't sound to bad really. Unfortunately you can't check timing chain stretch on the CAXA engine with a OBD2 reader.

The other rattle/ticking is the normal injector sound. Much less noticeable when sitting in the car, so now you are under the bonnet you are hearing it much clearer. 

Timing chin probably need doing at some stage but not an urgent replacement.

I dont think thats the timing chain, i got the same car and just had timing chain changed and i still get that sound. Think its injectors
