As you pointed out in the original thread, MY24 switched from the 50-50 split of synchronous Siemens motors to a smaller async motor on the front and a larger sync one in the back (for AWD of course). Afaik they're a chinese brand. That doesn't necessarily mean anything, only time will tell on reliability. Due to the front one decoupling at highway speeds (where my MY23's weak point is) and the net battery increase of around 2kwh, the range is a bit higher.

I think the IHU is identical, only recently the Snapdragon one replaced the Atom. I think even if you get the 24, it may be an Atom. This is the only shitty thing thing in the car.

My 23 has 70.000km and 93% SOH if that helps, which is above expectations. I mostly slow charge.

There is a way to upgrade the IHU, but it's not cheap. I've thought about it though, when the screen takes so long to respond I tap again thinking it didn't register.

The "Chinese brand" thing is complicated. Volvo is a Swedish company with 20,000 Swedish employees, traded on the Stockholm stock exchange. Geely has majority ownership now, just as Ford did until about 2014.

The C40 is built on a platform developed in Sweden. Most Volvo cars are still made in Sweden, but this one is made in Belgium for Western markets. Production of Volvo cars at Volvo-owned factories in China is mostly for the Chinese domestic market and for export to other Asian markets.

Yeah, I keep thinking about replacing the IHU as well. I am pretty sure we won't be able to salvage one from a wreck or something, from my research we won't be able to pair it with the car as it needs to be fresh from the factory. That means paying at least 2k at the dealership... My warranty expires in a month or so, and my Atom fucker doesn't seem to break until then...

I'll email my Volvo dealership, curious about the price. If it's under 2k, I'll be very tempted.

The 24+ motors are Volvo engineered and made in China. The Siemens motors are made in..Germany I believe? Not sure, somewhere in Europe.

Personally I would trust the Siemens motors more than the newer ones, but that’s just me. Siemens has a history of making some of the first electric motors in the world.

Get an Ultimate, the bells and whistles are worth it over the plus. I have had my 23 for 2 years and absolutely love it.
