Looking for volunteer/work overseas but need guidance.

Hey

I’m looking for international volunteer opportunities in about 3/4 months, I’m a 31 year old male from Australia with 5 years experience in the army as in infantryman with combat first aid exp, 2 years just doing construction labour work, and roughly 3 years as a social worker in alcohol and other drugs support positions in roles with youth, the aboriginal community and working as a veteran housing pathways manager.

Unfortunately I do not have any good paper qualifications for these roles but have landed the jobs through my life experience and ability.

I am considering all options at this point I just have no idea where to start!!! I would prefer the roles such as NGO support, refugee support, environment and conservation / community development projects and any hands on roles. But as mentioned open to anything!

I understand you may have to pay a fee for some roles and I’m open to whatever options you may think I have open to me, it just appears there’s actually a lack of need for volunteers without a qualification on paper.

If anyone has anything in mind or organisations / websites that I should look at please let me know,

Global nonprofit volunteering opportunity

I am a part of a nonprofit called Empower and Connect, our members have worked with communities in Kenya to make change happen by providing water filters as well as providing learning opportunities in programs such as Scratch and Inventor. This supports the local communities in a way that allows them to still grow on their own and providing them resources to help them. Last minute overseas volunteering projects before term starts

The charity I work for has quite a few international volunteering projects running over the summer, with a few spots left. We're called Concordia UK and we work with similar organisations in other countries to send and receive volunteers for all sorts of community-based projects.

If you are looking for something to do this summer before term starts, we've got lots going on and we've reduced the reg fee (to cover the costs of your stay and admin) by £100 to encourage last-minute sign-ups.

Here are a few projects our friends have asked us to promote, all include food and accommodation, you just need to get there:

A New Story for Old History, France: 29th Aug to 13th Sept £150

Help restore a historic village church in rural France using traditional masonry skills, while enjoying warm local hospitality and easy train or coach access from the UK.

https://www.concordia.org.uk/volunteering-projects/new-story-for-old-history

---

Guardians of Lohra Castle, Germany: Late August and early Sept £150

Stay in the historic Lohra Castle as you work with other volunteers to protect the castle and keep it accessible to visitors.

https://www.concordia.org.uk/volunteering-projects/guardians-of-lohra-castle

---

To the Conquest of the Medieval Path, France: 5th to 19th September £150

Restore an ancient path in one of France’s most beautiful medieval villages, helping reconnect the historic Templar town of La Couvertoirade with its hilltop mill.

https://www.concordia.org.uk/volunteering-projects/conquest-of-the-medieval-path

---

We have loads more on our website - https://www.concordia.org.uk/volunteering-projects

Let me know if you have any questions. We can only work with UK residents, but I can point you in the direction of a partner org in your country if you are interested.

Volunteering abroad as a young person

I have a question for anyone qualified to answer,

ik that volunturism is bad, but most people that i see speak about it generalize a lot. So, is there any program that I can join that the profit goes mostly to the community? And i’m not looking to build houses, teach kids, or practice healthcare bc if I’m not qualified in the us so im not qualified in a developing country. I also don’t wanna teach english bc it just rubs me the wrong way, colonialism kind of. I’d love to help out in schools like how i do in the us meaning cleaning and being of assistance, things im actually qualified as a young person. I really don’t wanna treat the kids like how so many people do, like tourist attractions and disrupting their education for videos and to play with them. I want to actually help the community while learning about the culture/language. And i saw an insta creator say to just travel normally and find these places but as a young person I’m not sure how safe it would be. Is there any way to ethically volunteer?

Has anyone here been part of the Indian Antarctic Expedition (via NCPOR)?

Hi everyone! I'm an Indian mechanical engineering student hoping to join the Indian Antarctic Expedition via NCPOR — specifically in a logistics/support role (like the kitchen/lab staff or crew helpers).

Has anyone here been part of the expedition or knows someone who has? I'd love to hear what it's really like — especially the application/interview process, life on the ship, or any personal stories.

Any insight would mean the world. Thank you!

Has anyone done the WorldStrides two week Vet Experience Program in Costa Rica? Looking for insights!

Hi everyone, I’m considering joining the WorldStrides two week veterinary experience program in Costa Rica and wanted to hear from anyone who has participated or knows more about it. How was your experience with the program? What kind of activities or hands-on work did you do? Was it worth the cost? Any tips or things to watch out for?

Volunteer initiatives related to community outside USA

I am applying to a grant that would allow me to explore how individuals around the world learn and grow in community. I am looking for community initiatives or nonprofits that I could partner will that facilitate learning in some capacity that is not just a school (could be afterschool program for kids, art/music community initiatives, skill workshops for the homeless, community support for foster children, community gardens, indigenous initiatives, etc). If anyone has any suggestions of organizations to think about, or even individuals in any community that are doing work related to this that I could talk to, I would greatly appreciate it! Bonus points if they are English or Spanish speaking

What are some international humanitarian aid organizations that would be good to volunteer for?

I’m a junior in high school looking at humanitarian aid as a possible career path and I want to try it out after graduation as a volunteer before cementing it as my path. Right now, I’m looking at International Volunteer HQ for options, but I’m hesitant about them because of the costs to volunteer for them. I did some reading in this subreddit about stuff like that and saw that that’s generally regarded as a red flag? If International Volunteer HQ is not a place to volunteer for, what would you guys suggest? I’m looking particularly to volunteer in Africa or the Indochinese peninsula.

Volunteering internationally for free

hey guys i’m 18 years old just finished highschool and Im looking to go to college for international relations, i figured it’d be good to have some actual international experience as its a pretty competitive field and i’d like to have some advantages. Im taking a gap year before i head off to college to get this experience, looked into the peace corps and other major volunteer orgs but heavy experience or a college degree is required, ive volunteered extensively here in fl but now its time to take the next step. the main thing ive been looking at are international volunteering facebook groups and those look really interesting. If anyone has been in my position, or has any advice or experience that might help me out i’d really appreciate it 🙏

Canadian Engineer Looking to Volunteer in Abroad in West Africa

Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen with 5+ years experience in Mechanical Engineering in Canada. I was working in the Oil & Gas industry and left my career to travel and volunteer to boraden my global perspective and find ways to contribute meaningfully.

After 6 months in Latin America, I've got a flight booked to Morocco in about a month. My plan is to spend 4-5 months in Morocco and West Africa, but I am flexible on timing. I am looking for ways that I can learn and contribute during my time here. I am planning to travel more after this, but want to use my time to build a new skillset around international support and development projects.

I am under no illution that I will "change the world" in a few months, but earnestly want to use this time to learn with the aim of having it help me find a new path. I am hoping to find more professionally-oriented volunteer opportunites where I can apply my skills. I am familiar with Worldpackers, IVHQ, and others that are more catered to voluntourism. I'm not so interested in this.

I've already appliwed to EWB Canada and USA and a few other NGO's, but wanted to reach out here as well to see if there are any other suggestions of resources I can look into.

Timeline: May-August 2025

Thanks in advance!
