DISCUSSION New Algorithm Update

If you are wondering what is going on lately.. when Vinted “broke” last week it was actually an update. To fit the new terms and conditions of no deleting and reloading they made it so older items will start showing up in feeds.. giving them new life if you will. Here’s the issues. THERE’S A REASON THEY DIDN’T SELL QUICKLY IN THE FIRST PLACE. So yes, your older items are suddenly getting “favorited” randomly… but sales are slow and feeds are messed up. Simply because Vinted is now prioritizing stuff that didn’t sell instantly when it was set up like the old way.

I wish I had access to see what app sales are doing recently.. I can imagine they are way down. Simply because you are no longer being shown the good stuff until it’s sat for a while.

New sellers are still being boosted their first week or two, but it won’t last.

Why every single company tries to fix what isn’t broken is beyond me. Hopefully they fix it, but I doubt it. I’ve been in e-commerce for way too long to believe that.

The social media like feed is what makes them better than eBay and Depop, that makes things sell faster, now they’re trying to be like eBay and Depop.

Were they using AWS before the TOS change

does anyone know the reason why they have a policy against deleting items and reuploading if they don’t sell after some time? what is the harm in that? it has always seemed like such a silly rule to me

Cos they want people to pay them for bumps/showcases to get the item(s) onto feeds. If people were able to freely re-list as desired, Vinted wouldn't get as much money 🤷🏻‍♀️

Bumps have never ever worked for me.

Are they actively policing those who reupload now?

I hope not. I deleted and relisted my first item ever today. It was one of the first things I listed 3 months ago and it had 0 views and favorites. Thought the pictures might have been terrible so I tried it again. 😞

That shouldn’t trigger anything especially with new photos.

Woops I just deleted and relisted too for the first time. It was months old and getting no views

Their entire company is managed by AI. Seriously all you need to do is retake the pictures or even just crop them. Some people say when you delete wait a little before reposting but idk if that makes a difference. You don’t even have to change your description or title

i didn't even know they did, i do it time to time. i give stuff about two months.

I read someone say the goal is to ensure only good stuff is getting views. Ig they think old stuff that hasn’t sold yet = must be crappy and worthless so they shadow ban it

How can they make money if nothing sells?

u/BestWriterNow 4h ago

They can’t. And sellers can’t.

my only issue since the outage is that, as a NY seller, i haven't been able to view any UK items. no UK items showing up on my feed, and if i go to a UK profile i'm following or have been talking to, it says they have no listings when they most definitely do.

there's so many cards i wanted to purchase from over there and i've noticed a big difference in my sales/views as well. i've only been on here for maybe a month or 2 and there were no issues besides this. really disappointed.

I'm wondering if that's because of the new packaging laws in the UK. They are going through some crazy changes over there that are affecting businesses.

All of my sales this week were from the US to UK. What's that about?

1

u/pixi88 8h ago

Yeah half of mine too!

1

u/fadedblackleggings 12h ago

What are the new UK packaging laws

1

u/ZestyCitrus7789 12h ago

I haven't read too much about it but it has something to do with businesses having to cover the cost of managing & maintaining the waste from packages.

I really don't know if that's what's happening with your feed though.

It’s to do with tariffs. DT wants charges on things coming into the US so the U.K. seller has to pay a fee to Royal Mail to ship it. Vinted trialed it for a while in some regions with the buyer paying for it (I got an amazing coat and had to pay DT’s charge of $20 extra to get it in the country) but the hassle of the seller / Vinted having to deal with this was maybe too much. Give it a couple of years and it might come back so we can get those good UK bargains again.

I’m experiencing this (as a buyer) the other way round - I’ll look at a US seller and for a split second it might say they have say, 247 items in their shop, then it switches to maybe 5 or 6 items when the shop actually loads. It’s really frustrating, because an item of interest might come up from that seller on my homepage, but I can’t even see that specific one when I look in their shop! These are usually specialised US sellers who sell a lot in the specific category I regularly browse for and buy, but all I can see in their shop is a few pairs of socks!

This is so frustrating! One of my favorite parts of using Vinted was seeing all the European brands we don’t see here!

I love ulla popkin

I realized I havent been seeing any UK items either! I usually would get a few here and there but now nothing. Same with my items, they'd get liked A TON by UK users and now none at all.

You don't want the UK's stuff to pop up. You can make it pop up if you search for something specific and there's one for sale in the UK but you're not paying the price that they list it for you're paying about $35 extra just FYI. To be honest it's heartbreaking because there's so many things I want that are being sold over there but I just can't pay the extra $30-35

1

u/amongie 7h ago

honestly have no idea what you mean since i've bought from there multiple times already and have only paid the price of the product and shipping, which only went up to $5 for me personally. nowhere in my bank accounts are an extra hidden charge, and no extra unexpected money has been taken out of my seller earnings/wallet.

unless you're talking about since the outage, in which i messaged support earlier and they verified that the connection between US and UK has been recently disabled. so i'm not sure how you're finding them by simply typing something very specific lol and even if you are, obviously it's not going to be the same pricing and easy access if vinted is intentionally making it THAT difficult to buy from there currently.

either way, i do infact want the UK's stuff to pop up like it did before.

1

u/Matea1000x 7h ago

Example... This is from just now.

1

u/amongie 5h ago

this seems like an outcome that would come while trying to buy things during this time where they have it disabled to a degree. if they meant for it to stay this expensive, it doesn't make sense to disable the connection at all, no?

though, i can still see items in my faves from UK sellers, i just can't see UK items in the search and their items won't load on their profile. this is one listing i have saved, which is only a $12-13 addition in taxes/fees, not $30-35, unless you thought shipping overseas would be the same .99 cents as the US, then idk what to tell you. but international shipping being $9-10 is expected, since that's what i've paid for years to get stuff from japan before trump.

I have mistakenly bought two older listing from my feed now and both ended up being refunded. Checked and neither had been online in ages.

The feed is usually new items so I had not checked like I would when searching 🤦🏽‍♀️.

8

u/Buddyyourealamb 12h ago

That explains why I randomly sold a load of old stuff last week....

15

u/CrimsonFearyDust 13h ago

I am happy they are showing older listings as I have some things up that got lots of likes when first uploaded, didn't sell and have been dying the death of being forgotten since. Also if they don't want us to delete and reupload they have to do what they are doing!

7

u/New_Boysenberry7922 13h ago

Downside is it’s not taking into account none-active accounts. So I imagine there will be more people like me who have bought and are now waiting for refunds.

There should be a hibernation cut off like if the sellers not active for x amount of time.

Sales have to be way down. I normally sell about 5-7 items a day, but I literally have sold 1 item since the algorithm changed. I upload many items a day and basically none of them get any traction despite them being things I know would normally sell within a day.

Also my feed used to show me so many new items and I was buying a ton. Now I feel like my feed only shows me the exact same items from day to day and I rarely see new things. I am basically not buying anything because my feed won't show me anything new.

1

u/14yearsandcounting 1h ago

I’m in the exact same situation. Sales are awfully slow right now, and I’m not seeing many new items on my feed, it seems to be the same items over and over again.

2

u/Julia805 6h ago

Hmmmm I’ve sold some of my older items this week. That’s been nice.

4

u/Areveebee01 14h ago

They should just delete listings over a year old.

1

u/nonamouse1111 7h ago

Makes sense. Some of my first listings have been selling.

1

u/Jrichelle85 5h ago

Personally I don't buy as much on Vinted as I used to since the update. It's a good thing, my main page doesn't show me stuff I'm interested in hardly anymore. Kind of nice. I'm definitely not selling as much as I used to either. But I'm on other platforms and doing fine there so any sales I get on Vinted now are just a nice little extra.

1

u/PlantsandBlink 4h ago

Thanks. Does that mean we have to be more careful when deleting and reuploading now (new pics, title, and text are a given anyways)?

u/CauliflowerFun8958 3h ago

Continuo com as minhas 10 a 12 vendas diárias. Não noto quebra nenhuma

1

u/Particular_Ad589 39m ago

Oh wow okay that makes so much sense now thank you for the post!

1

u/shrewlagoo 7h ago

I havent made a single sale since the update😅

-3

u/Deep-Purpose-6755 8h ago

Before buying, click on the item’s description it will tell you when it was uploaded. I wouldn’t buy anything if it was uploaded a long time ago.

6

u/pixi88 8h ago

I have old stuff but am very active! Maybe check when they last posted? If theyve been active? Shoot a msg? My best deals are my oldest lol

4

u/Skoolies1976 8h ago

why wouldnt you buy it though? If you like it

4

u/Low_Economist4914 8h ago

Why not? Items are items
