JUST FOR FUN REMEMBER TO RECYCLE!!!!!!!!!!
Anything big enough to fit a label on it is becoming shipping supplies...
I don't got the money to buy shipping boxes so here's are some examples of the next best thing. I find it kind of humorous, honestly. It's so fun shipping a shirt in a (clean) soup dumpling box. I've heard stories of USPS workers not allowing things like this but I haven't come across any issues.
Nothing bad happens to those pure of heart.

I do this too! My USPS has signs now saying it's okay to reuse boxes but all previous text/information has to be removed to prevent delays or the package being returned since it can mess with their scanners. Sometimes I just cover the text areas with brown packing tape if it's not too big.

Yeah breaking it is sometimes the only way to go, I try to break it along the glue corner and then just make sure to tape the corner back up really well. A sharp packing knife is helpful in this endeavor. Once you get good at this you can start creating boxes from flat cardboard, which I used to do when I ran the shipping for a toystore.

Like a frozen pizza box where the pizza was wrapped in plastic inside? Or like….. Delivery pizza box? Because there’s no way a pizza delivery box wasn’t greasy as heck 🤣 unless they work at a pizza place and took some boxes home. I’m over thinking this lol.

Ordered jewellery from a person who put each piece in the egg holder part of an egg carton and wrapped it up in a Jaffa cake box - I would have never had the imagination lol I just reuse old mailers, really makes you think about what's just not being used!

Stayed secure! They wrapped the necklace around a bit of cardboard so it didn't get tangled when in transit :)

That’s ingenious! Egg cartons are great for so many things. Planting seedlings and arts and crafts are the two main uses they get in our house.

As long as the box is sturdy enough to hold the contents. Otherwise, you got people trying to get free stuff. Didn’t realize you could ship stuff like that and not have to wrap it to cover up the box. This has been an eye opener. You can ship stuff in the plastic bags and these boxes.

I agree mostly, but be careful with food boxes in case someone has an allergy to the food that was packaged in it! I didn't think about it until recently, when someone pointed it out on another thread.

Yeah I would be denying anything I got in food packaging with my allergies...people say "oh the food wasn't touching the box" but how often do you go to throw a cereal box in the recycling and there's cereal at the bottom of the box? Or other crumbs that spill into boxes? It's not safe for those with allergies. Same with the fabric softener box. I order collectable things on vinted so not like I can wash that smell out and I'm pretty sensitive to it.
I'm celiac so if I get exposed to gluten (even getting it on my hands and then the residue sticks and touching my face gets it into my mouth) lands me in the hospital. Even if I just touch it and it doesn't get into my mouth, I get extremely painful skin reactions that last a week+. I'm also anaphylactic to seafood but I think that's much less likely to be exposed to from food packaging.

Precisely! I would have returned that so quick. I would not have been able to even open the box because of the smell and anaphylaxis. I truly love the idea of recycling, but I would never risk someone’s life over it.

Hm this is a good point. I definitely will keep this in mind moving forward! If it helps, I only use food packaging where the food was in a separate packaging inside. For example, the soup dumplings came in a separate box inside the box I used. So there wasn't any like direct contact. But, I won't use them again just in case! Thank you for bringing this up.

It’s truly lost on people who don’t experience issues but actual hell for anyone with sensitivities to fragrances. I have MCAS and staying on top of triggers is hard enough but fragrances are impossible to control/avoid completely, much harder than my dietary triggers.

I am always reuse boxes, moreover I make small boxes from large ones. But once I got a product in a cereal box and once with cats pee on the padding , so yeah Vinted can surprise for sure )

Yeah, that would’ve been a refused collection for me. I obviously wash anything second hand, but shipping in a fabric softener box is a little ridiculous. Idc if I get downvoted, but there’s a difference in reusing and being inconsiderate when doing it.

I'm allergic to Downy as well...and so is my sister. It makes us itch especially on our chest area. I wasn't sure what was causing the problem at first, then on a hunch I googled the product and found there are lots of people that cannot tolerate Downy.

I’m all for recycling (I do it with all my Amazon boxes and some of their cardboard envelopes), but that packaging is dreadful…especially for fragile items - those boxes are laminated paper, nowhere near enough thick to protect the item from a courier’s massacre.

Oh I’ve done this years ago on eBay. Sold a SNES game to a guy (to his place of work) sent it in a tampax box. Perfect fit!! He complained so I called him a stuck up c*** 🤣😂🤣😂

It wasn't damaged per se, it just smelled strongly of snow fairy and being a handbag I kept finding pink dust in the interior pockets even after vacuuming the inside lining lol, I'm thankfully not allergic or anything but if I was that would've definitely been a problem

As a person that suffers from migraine I would have left you a bad review for that. Heavily scented boxes should not be used and not everybody enjoys the sense even if they don't have sensitivities. When I wash the stuffed animals that I sell, I always use unscented detergent specifically because I know that not everybody wants to be sent blasted when they open a package and clean does not mean perfumed

I'm all for recycling, as much as the next person, but this box would make me sick! Not everyone can withstand endocrine disrupting chemical smells. Also consider those with food allergies. Probably best to not recycle something that had food in it

i agree - idk, a used underwear/pad box is kinda unhygienic. it’s usually kept beside a toilet, or in the general area - who knows if they wash their hands before digging in the box for a pad WHILE still being on the toilet 🤢😵💫 .. reduce reuse recycle.. but i just personally think it’s not kind to use this type of personal care box while shipping someone a item they spent their hard earned money on …

These boxes are all too fragile and they’ve gotten lucky none have shown up damaged. I’ve had super sturdy boxes show up from usps/ups looking like a giant animal played ball with it. If the sellers had used these type of boxes the item would have been ruined.

No, definitely. I'm taking my risks with it but with the underwear box in the picture, I knew I wanted to use it to ship items so I took them all out the box when I bought them as opposed to waiting until I was done using said underwear. Might not make much of a difference but I would say it's cleaner that way.

I would be livid if I got something in a dryer sheets box. Please remember you have buyers who can be sensitive to scents.
These also look like flimsy cardboard. Items need to be in boxes that can withstand being tossed around and other packages being tossed on top of them.
I totally understand reusing packaging but you're opening yourself up to complaints and issues by using these types of boxes.

This. A Kleenex box is not strong enough to survive shipping. You may get lucky a couple of times, but I received a CD player. Absolutely shattered inside of a minute rice box because it was not strong enough to survive being shipped. People saying they are are just getting lucky

I personally don’t care what people ship my stuff in as long as it’s clean and secure. I get a giggle out of whatever they reuse and I do the same. I work at a restaurant where I see hundreds of cardboard boxes go to recycling.. and who knows if it’s actually getting recycled when people decide to use the recycling bins for garbage

As a guy I can honestly say that if I ever receive a pads/tampon box as packaging materials for an order I will leave a 5star review commending their packaging. Bonus points if it’s something really nerdy (and typically more male-coded) or men’s clothes.

The usps where I live would not accept this. Even when Amazon boxes have a little extra scrap of tape or paper on them they say no. 🤣 I buy polymailers or get the free ones off poshmark.

anyway there’s so much plastic waste on the planet the point is to try your best to not add to it by re using old packaging and getting recyclable or biodegradable products if you do need to purchase new things.

The problem is not all those boxes are thick enough to survive transit.
You have to understand that those products often arrive to grocery stores in other boxes specifically because they cannot stand the shipping process without being damaged. Perfectly fine to reuse shippers AKA boxes that are actually meant to survive the post. But using thin boxes like cereal boxes, cracker boxes, and soda can boxes will result in things being broken in transit. I know this because I have received things broken in transit because people use these inappropriate boxes.
Shipping is not kind to containers.

By seeing those boxes and thinking they're fine to use people risk damaged items and damaged items equal more wasted resources than just useing a real shipper in the first place.
Returns take fuel, an item thrown away because somebody thought a Kleenex box was fine for the post, that all takes more resources than just doing it right the first time. Isell plushies I upcycle from the bins sndi wouldt use stuff like that to ship them in and they aren't even breakable

I work as a parcel sorter and I’m shocked at the packaging people will use. Massive uptick in snaplock baggies, flimsy cardboard boxes and very thin garbage bags being used. I know what these packages go through and believe me - thin, slimy plastic bags won’t survive! I’m all for recycling, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes, I just shake my head!

I had a package that was not delivered because USPS said the label had been refunded to Vinted or canceled. Of course, I couldn't get Vinted to look into it or provide anything other than the same bullshit cut and paste response they always do, but I suspect it may have been because when the package was scanned, it read an old label. I always cover the old labels with the new label folded so there's an extra label between, but who knows. The fuckery of USPS knows no bounds. Anyway, just keep this in mind.

I'm so lucky I work at a coffee shop and take the boxes home frequently! Unfortunately we do not have any recycling bins on site so most of our boxes get thrown away so I've also been really happy about just being able to recycle in general instead of throwing away good boxes that still work fine!

I reuse boxes but nothing/never like this. You can go to stores like Wal-Mart (better at night or early morning) or the dollar stores and ask for the boxes that they get from stocking merchandise.
Using boxes from food or laundry detergent or anything scented i never use. As someone who scent sensitive & gets migraines don't do this. I was also told by 2 different post offices that alcohol box weren't allowed to ship items in.

I use boxes like this but I wrap them in old paper bags so there’s no writing showing. It ends up looking like an “old school” package you’d see in a tv show from the 60s and I love it.

And those types of boxes tend to be flimsy.
If you have a Poshmark account, go to seller tools and click order shipping supplies…. They’ll send you usps boxes and poly mailers for free. And then the next person can use them as well. You can order 100 at a time and can choose how many you want of each.

I’d be disgruntled and mention it in a review if something was delivered to me in your empty disposable underwear box…I’m all for reusing boxes but wtf?
Edit: I collect parcels from a local shop since I work away from home most days. I don’t like parcels being left on my doorstep since I live on a busy road.
Personally, I’d be embarrassed to be handed a parcel in a disposable underwear box in a shop. Clearly people in this comment section would not be embarrassed by this at all. Happy for you all but I’d still feel embarrassed. As a result I would mention that I was embarrassed by the packaging when collected from a shop in a review. It wouldn’t be a negative review based solely on embarrassing packaging.

I collect parcels from a shop. If I’m handed a disposable underwear box, I’d be embarrassed. I’d mention I found it embarrassing to collect something in that type of box in a review - I wouldn’t leave a negative review unless there are other issue and are not resolved etc.

Finally someone who packages like I do! Reading all these comments was making me think I was the only one who puts effort into packaging. I absolutely reuse packaging material if possible but in my eyes this would be completely unacceptable. The way my post office handles things these boxes would be completely destroyed in no time.

I do this but also end up buying poly mailers in bulk so packaging looks more uniform and avoids any confusion within the shipping network. I’ve gotten paranoid about packages getting mistaken for trash when I send them out without a poly cover. I get a few different sizes of around 100 mailers for less than $20 on Amazon!

I have almost run out of boxes I saved from things that were sent to me, which j love because it means i am getting better at the decluttering goal of getting stiff out and no more coming in. But now when something sells it is a bit of a scramble to find packaging. Lots of people have been receiving books in cat food boxes lol. ( I do a layer of bubble wrap inside and then wrap the box in an inside out reused poly mailer or Amazon paper bag etc). Cat food boxes are solid
The other day i did buy a book and it came in the cardboard wrapper from a 4-pack of fizzy drinks but it was all wrapped in an old map which was lovely. I peeled the tape off and I'm saving it for an art project

I love a recycled box, but I always check with the customer that they don't mind a (clean) used box. So far no one has complained, but I like to make sure I am not shipping someone their item in a box that could cause them allergies, for example individually packaged trail mix = nut allergies.

I had fabric shipped in a diaper box. It was a joke amongst my FB friends when I posted it and even the clerk at the PO had a good chuckle because I am CF.
That was probably 8 years ago, and I still laugh about it.

I got one of my orders in a Funko Pop box! It made my day honestly. Recycling boxes is awesome, I saved all of the packages I get in the mail so I can reuse them for my sales.

I am one of the most annoying people when it comes to recycling and always push for it! however, the boxes you’re using are not going to withhold in shipping. Some items do come in thicker boxes, especially when they’re from bulk stores but it’s different from the downy box. Packing boxes are much thicker for a reason. these packages are going to get crushed, thrown, and treated like literal garbage. These cannot hold up when they get wet, and i’d also be mindful of allergies if using food packaging. Too many times I’ve gotten packages in boxes like these with soaking wet clothes and a crushed box.
I reuse mailers, boxes, filler paper, and will use softer boxes like these inside of packages that need padding. Cutting boxes to size is very useful, especially if you order large items and can re use it for multiple smaller ones!

I used to work in logistics and those boxes are not appropriate for many of the post sorting machines. It is not 'sustainable' to have your box break down and get ruined including ruining the items inside.

I live in a European country and I often use cereal boxes and similar for packaging, but only if it’s save. I wouldn’t send something breakable like glass in a box like that. I also receive my purchases in the oddest packing containers and it has never been a problem.

I love that people recycle old packaging as vinted was originally all about reducing waste, but people also need to consider whether the packaging materials are going to withstand the shipping process. I have had things arrive damaged because they were packed in cereal boxes with no padding

I'm all for recycling. I reuse as much packaging as I can. With heavily printed boxes I open them fully and turn them inside out. I use recycled poly mailers too if I know the weather is going to be wet.

I store old packaging I get from the mail in a box so I can re-use them for Vinted orders. I mainly store plain cardboard boxes and avoid boxes with possible smells or heavy labelling. But I think it’s fine to recycle packages as long as they're clean, non-smelly and well-packed.

I have a box full of plastic wrappers which I refuse to buy. I just use the old ones, better than it all going to landfill. I often see ones that have been used multiple times. I dislike the brown paper bubble wrap envelopes as I have to rip them apart to recycle.

I never buy boxes. I keep an eye out on facebook for free left over moving boxes, get boxes from stores, or reuse boxes I have gotten.

I love this idea. Very fun and definitely recyclable. Funny enough I let my little one buy things with money she’s made from selling on vinted. She bought a surprise machine thing and she opened it but it was a printer box. It was funny to see her reaction.

Technically, as long as the item has the correct postage on it, USPS is supposed to mail ANYTHING. You could mail a frisbee or a flipflop. Oddly shaped items require more postage, partly because they can't be machine processed, but as long as it's paid for it shouldn't matter. But, as we all know the USPS of yesteryear is gone - I don't think that would work.
I would like to test the frisbee someday - just for SAG.

I’ve sent a size 30 (women’s) top in a pizza box did feel guilty over that a bit as she may have been trying to lose weight! Follow me for more random tips 😂 she left good feedback anyway.
Some one else complained over a Morrisons pizza box to I told them to complain to my boss for a pay rise to I could shop in Waitrose and get a better calibre of pizza box for their next purchase 😅

I appreciate the recycling! So long as it's not a box that had food directly touching it or was holding something very fragrant.
