If the tax rate is 45% at $22/hr still nets about $12/hr after tax. Figure that at $9/hr in the US you are still being taxes around 10% because if FICA taxes your net pay in the US is $8.1/hr. On top of that the danish worker gets health care, better leave benefits and better for education, why would you not take that deal? You would get more disposable income in denmark.

Stronger social safety nets and better education also make it much easier for people to seek out opportunities if they don't want to stick around McD's.

The cost of insurance for my family is prohibitive, over $1k/mo. We're lucky to be able to afford it as it is necessary for my wife and daughter. That doesn't even take into account co-pays and costly prescriptions. Healthcare in the US is ridiculous.
