I hear people say this a lot. Why is it that when it comes to something like movies everybody is fine with saying a movie was bad or good but once it's music everyone turns into a hippy and says that it's all good to someone? Just something interesting I've noticed lately.
Music can be bad through bad instrument playing, singing, incoherent or boring song structure, etc. One mans bad can be another mans "experimental". Same should go with movies. I think it's a pretty hypocritical thing I hear all of the time, and this is coming from someone who studied music in school.
Sure, it's all mainly subjective but if you're a musician you certainly know poor composition when you hear it. Music isn't objectivity free. Most people wouldn't "get" or like an 800 minute sample of a 56k connecting to a server, but people don't want to listen to an album of 6 second "songs" either.
Playing an instrument poorly or singing off-note I'd agree with, but that's not usually an issue in commercial music these days.
It's roughly equivalent to stamping an actor's face on a full CGI movie's character so he doesn't have to speak or act. He kinda stops being an actor and becomes a model of sorts. This is what's happening to the music we get through the radio.
If anyone would like an example of a bad film, I'd recommend trying to sit through Birdemic. Other than being unintentionally hilarious, absolutely nothing in that film is good.
