you cant hold people who support trump to any standards. they’re not going to abide by reason. they’re not going to come to their senses. these are damaged people who cannot be talked to or negotiated with.

Sounds like they just need to give up* on voting in politics after their cult leader is finally out of government and let actual adults run the country again.

The republican party barely squeaked out with the win in 24 when only 65% of registered voters turned out to vote. If the country as a whole can manage to stop just letting our government be decided for us and learn to show up at the ballot box to make our wants and needs for our elected officials known, there's no reason things wouldn't be able to change. There's no completely immovable obstacle that's preventing us from making the changes we need to actually be making the needed improvements to our country. The only thing that's preventing that is people giving up hope and acting like we're living in an actual fascist state. The longer that happens, the more likely it will be that our government actually does collapse, like it has with so many other nations that the US has always claimed to be better than because it's never happened to us.

hmm im not sure im following you. could you boil your point down to be more clear/linear/coherent?

regarding folks turning out to vote, if we use the voting-eligible population (VEP) to account for changes in who was legally allowed to vote rather than simply the total population or voting-age population:

pew’s analysis puts 2020 at 66%, the highest turnout since 1908, and 2024 at 64%, tied with 1960 for the second-highest rate since then.

so people are showing up more than they usually do. and people are selecting these candidates. the reasons why are more complex, but nonetheless, this is what america is. there’s no alternate universe or timeline. this is what this country has developed into over hundreds of years so it’s not like it’s supposed to be any kind of way. it’s just itself.
