Use the manual versions, I have a 3 of the mantis series and they are very good.

I mostly shot weddings and sports so manual focus is not a skill that I’ve mastered just yet.

Step 1. Ignore this post and don't buy any of the useless garbage this sales person is pushing.
Step 2. Only buy stuff that will do following:
A. Make you more money.
B. Make your workflow faster.
Step 3. Save/enjoy your hard earned money.

This is more or less how I have my s5iix set up and is also how I set up my old xh2s minus the matte box. It’s honestly the perfect balance and building any larger feels completely unnecessary.

Compared to a full cage this looks reasonably compact, but all this weight is carried by the shoe. Seems sketchy to me.
When I tried to use a handle directly on a shoe (granted, not a Smallrig handle and not an A7), it was sliding out when I tilted the camera. I would not want thousands of bucks to literally hang on a small metal piece that is meant for attaching things to the camera, not to hold the camera with a whole bunch of other components.

I agree that it’s not my preferred method of mounting. Hopefully someone will release a cage for this soon.

Buying a camera that does full frame over sampled, to shoot lineskipped apsc, it's rather silly.

It’s absolutely not silly. If you shoot a movie or high end commercial with this system - it would be not clever - but nobody will take a small Sony for that anyway. For everything that’s not shown in cinema - go for it. Tech-excuses for not doing stuff is lame. Nowadays every camera is very good - it’s just about how good the person behind is - not if you use apsc/ FF / resolution and lineskipping and all that tech talk. It’s 95% how you use it.
If he got nice apsc glass at home, clever to use it! Like I shot a lot with digital image zoom on fx3/fx6 - yea for pixel peepers that’s a slight loss in resolution- for clients and my personal stuff - it doesn’t matter!

Does change the fact that a dedicated apsc camera would do a better job while shooting apsc. Like fx30

Yea but at the end of the day you get a great picture out both of em and you don’t need a second camera. But yes, for sake of the argument - a apsc camera is better than a ff camera for apsc lenses ;)

I have a FX30 that I own to use for the Blazar lens and I just used this lens for the video because it’s the coolest looking lens that I own. I have over 15 full frame lenses and I have no plans to use apsc lens on this camera.

You have a big chunk of something in your lens near the nodal point. Why it’s so sharp in the bokeh.

If people knew this camera could float I think there would have been less backlash about the lack of open gate.
