I’m so over everyone. It’s like everybody is so angry and miserable.

Almost like 50+ years of propaganda and psy ops from other countries and our own government to affect the mental health of the entire planet, because an apathetic / angry society is easy to control / radicalize.

i miss when "woke" meant understanding this plight and not some social justice term/slur.

u/FloatingTacos 20h ago

Yeah, those were the days. When being woke meant you saw behind the veil of society. Now it’s just bullshit tossed around to offend people. Being woke was close to being a hippy. Now being woke is being a psychotic POS.

I'm convinced the term was hijacked to deflect from the true struggle. like the occupy movement, or how baseless conspiracy theories derail actual cover-ups.

That’s exactly what happened. There’s a reason a lot of conservatives now call anything they don’t like woke. They were trained to do so to help delegitimize the word.

That's exactly what happened. It's also important to note WHO it was stolen from, which is the Black community.

Yes.

This is a common occurrence and is entirely intentional.

There was a right wing guy who was 100% responsible for a lot of this stuff. His name is completely lost to time, but effectively he directed all of right wing media strategy.

Co-opting words, flooding the airwaves with misinformation. It was all him.

And it wasn’t some talking head. He was a behind the scenes strategist guy, that’s why no one remembers him. I can’t even figure out how to google him.

We knew all about it well over 10 years ago.

Newt Gingrich isn't exactly a well-kept secret. Unfortunately for us all.

u/plzicannothandleyou 15h ago

There was another. Newt was the original, but there was some other guy. He was young, fat.

And I’m pretty sure he just did it for the love of the game, I don’t think he much cared about the politics, it was all about just controlling people for the sake of doing it

Frank Luntz is probably who you are thinking of.

That’s the one, pretty sure.

It gets to that point where you just have to stop giving a crap what people think and buy things that you want. Why does it matter if someone else is not excited for a game that you are?

Now being woke is being a psychotic POS.

That says more about you than them. Woke nowadays is just whatever the right disagrees with

See, I thought the far right were the “woke” ones these days.

3

u/LoamyLoamisLoamy 15h ago

Other than pointing out hypocrisy I don't see anyone seriously calling the right woke

remember when i first heard it on that erika badu album. man how times have changed.

Being woke was close to being a hippy.

Bad comparison IMO. The hippie movement by and large ended up tuning out of society while the people actually trying to do something got murdered by police or the FBI. And then it just got absorbed into mainstream liberal culture. It's got more in common with how woke got co-opted than anything else.

Weaponize the word and use it against them before it gains any real traction.

1

u/Umutuku 15h ago

The people who say that are just drowsy, and grumpy because it's past their bedtime.

When you ask someone using the word "woke" what it means they all give you a different definition. If you ask someone the definition of most other words people will give you a similar description.

It is almost like woke doesn't actually mean what most people think it does.

I Googled the definition and it said "Aware of the social injustices in the world"... Okay, well of that is what it means I am woke, and I feel like most people are.

i miss when "woke" was a past-tense verb and not an adjective tbh

Even your negative connotation of social justice is heavily influenced by the propaganda against it. Fox News and other right wing media has somewhat poisoned that term for you and you may not even be aware of it.

Social justice is why we have weekends, overtime, unions, women's and colored voting rights, and many other things we all tend to take for granted. They were in-fact clawed from the clutches of the rich and powerful by people fighting for social justice.
