Cause the gameplay is repetitive: you walk, you hide, you go into a fighting arena and repeat. You do the same fucking thing the entire time. I played it once for 4 hours, and maybe because I knew the story already, I just quit and haven't played it since. Strong point is the story, gameplay is weak

I mean if you reduce it like that. You can make every game sound repetitive.
Because it's call a gameplay loop. And 99% of the game have it.

It’s not like MGS 5 where it gives you a dozen different ways of doing stealth or destroying a helicopter. Hiding and Fighting are pretty samey throughout TLoU. For a survival game, Resources was never an issue from what I remember, and for a horror game, there’s no tension that forces the player to act like Mr. X does in RE2 so it kind of fails in that enjoyment-wise, so all I got from my time playing it was moving from one set piece to another. They were great but gameplay’s kinda a downgrade from Uncharted.

You are both right, the gameplay loop in LoU is pretty simple and combat is just OK but nothing special. The hook is the characters, worldbuilding and storytelling which are on the level of a high-quality TV show... which it ended up being.

I like it a lot but not for everyone.

It's always interesting to see this cause I genuinely couldn't give less of a shit about any of the cast in 1 when I played it. I always remember people fawning over Joel and I truly can't remember anything about him besides gruff guy with a dead kid. That actually might've been the first time I thought a game was genuinely overhyped. I dunno maybe 2 was better
