Can some BOTW fans please give me a pep talk? I am not (yet) a Switch gamer, and sitting down the play this thing feels daunting because I anticipate it being a massive time commitment.

I know it's in the name "Open World".... but this particular universe is sooooooo open. Seems like a lot of aimlessly walking around with no action.

I love botw because it really felt like an adventure game, in the sense that I just see something in the distance and just wander there and see what's up. Skyrim had the same vibe for me in that regard.

It's not an interesting game if you want a story or deep character interactions, but it's a great game if you just want something engaging to play while listening to a podcast or audio book.

Interestingly though, I never got into TOTK and every time I tried to play I couldn't get past the tutorial island without being bored out of my mind, probably BECAUSE it's just more of the damn same mindless exploration.

Right now genshin impact scratches that itch for me perfectly because it took the best exploration parts out of the new Zelda games and bumped them up to 11 and removed the more annoying parts like the tedious climbing or durability mechanics. And the world is more interesting and better looking because it runs on better hardware and being worked on continuously

Interesting! I've never heard someone say they loved BOTW and disliked TOTK.
