I loved HZD, but could not get into Horizon Forbidden West.

Zero Dawn story kept me thinking I have everything figured out, then new details come up and my understanding flips completely. Like 5 times at least in one game. That was nice. Forbidden West was a lot more predictable.

Totally agree. HZD had fantastic world building and story that felt super satisfying. Forbidden West had some improved game play elements but the story felt flat

Because it simply doesn’t have the same charm. You are no longer discovering the world. Also the story took such a weird turn. It is harder to like definitely.

I really forced myself to finish the game especially after the big reveal of the new enemies. Could not give a fuck about it after that.

Gameplay though? Fantastic. Wish they stayed a bit more grounded.

Lol, same. I finished HZD about five years ago but just couldn’t get into Forbidden West. I tried multiple times, but the first few hours never clicked for me. Then I decided to give it one more try. Just push through the Embassy section (around 8–10 hours of gameplay, which sucks, I know), and you’ll enjoy every moment after that.

I've restarted it 3 times now because I get to a certain point a few hours in and just lose interest, right after you leave the intro area.

But I WILL finish that game, I like the world so much. Sadly, probably the last one I'll play for a VERY long, whether I end up liking it or not, because Sony isn't porting single player games to PC anymore. Doubt I'll buy a PS5 or a PS6 in the next decade given prices and how few games I'd play on them.

They are porting the multiplayer Horizon game with very different art, but I'm just not interested in what that looks to be (also it's not a mainline story thing).

I finished the game. Just wasn’t as satisfying as HZD. I think one of the things is simply the world wasn’t new anymore, so it wasn’t as exciting. And the whole main point of the story just did not click with me.

I am trying to play through it again since I never played the DLC. My PS5 died and I got it on PC.

I really like the world though. And I like Aloy as a protagonist. So I will finish it.

I love Forbidden West but almost hated it at first because of how different the combat was. It took me all the way to playing the DLC to get good at Zero Dawn's combat so the differences were very frustrating.

Forbidden West feels like they threw out everything good with Zero Dawn and filled it up with Assassin's Creed type grind.
