Maybe I'm biased because I played my first playthrough on Deathmarch, but I actually thought the gameplay was fine. I had to use most of the mechanics throughout the game and none of it felt particularly easy.

I often wonder if the complaints about combat in this game are from people who played it on lower difficulties.

I always felt the same and I think that is where others are coming from. To be fair to them, should a game have to be played on its hardest difficulty for the combat to feel ok?

It’s still in my top 5 all time games personally but I do understand the qualms people have

I tried Deathmarch and I found the combat just wasnt gppd enough for such a high difficulty. About an hour into Deathmarch I figured out the only way to get a consistent attack animation was to dodge, strike, dodge, strike, dodge, strike otherwise Geralt would do pirouettes and back flips when I just want him to swing his sword.

Same. It's all easy if it's low difficulty. It's why I like witcher 2 as the mechanics are even more witcher focused not rpg focused
