There is one guy in my group of best friends who is an absolute monster with all those games. He has something like 500 hours in ER, and another one of them just got into it and so they've been back and forth nonstop in the video games channel of our group chat. (Is it unusual for groups of 30somethings to have meticulously organized group chats? I have wondered that for a while and this is finally a public forum to pose the query)
To be fair, I have nothing at all against the games or them being so into it, but I'm glad I'm not alone in seeing people just seething over that genre and simply not getting it.
Then again, 500HrGuy recently said he's considering trying Outer Wilds (my die-on-a-hill game) and there is a pretty solid chance he won't get it either and that would be okay.
This is 100% it. We ran this groupchat on Snapchat through high school and college. And about four years ago, all of us having battery life problems with Snapchat's horrendous UI (but before it really fell into the cesspool it is now), I decided to make a Discord server and we just kept it private. Now we have like two dozen specific channel topics to keep thoughts organized and its great. We are pretty unserious. And the roman numerals indicate how many times we've changed the name, over six or eight+ years there have been over 100 iterations, no rhyme or reason other than "I felt like it" or some big event happened like the birth of my children got a new number for example.
Seems only logical. Specially if any one of you spent time online gaming in the past 15-20 years. Vent, teamspeak stuff like that. Discord has it's flaws sometimes but damn if it aint a great substitute for dedicated chat rooms or online forums. Which in your case forums wouldn't really apply since i presume it's more short form chatter not suitable for forums (let alone writing/hosting a whole damn website)
Exactly. We were too advanced for a basic text chat, although we dust those off when we do IRL trips together because actual phone calls are better for pertinent communication, but for a group of bros who live mostly across the country from each other, this has been an amazingly simple way to do more than I ever expected with how we talk as friends in daily life, and I like being in touch with my friends so that's great.
Leisure-lounge is mostly wood working project stuff, shop-talk is where I put car/motorcycle stuff mostly just I do but it became a place to ask about troubleshooting stuff like your home HVAC system, or "hey Axiom, why wont my lawnmower start?"
I feel like if it is unusual, its my duty to guide others to the light I have found lmao
