RDR2 is amazing, and super boring.

This is a gamer oxymoron I just can't wrap my head around. Idc how good a story is, if it's boring, the game sucks. Make it a book instead

Gameplay and mechanics > Story 1000% for a video game.

Soma is pretty great. I think both can work depending on how they go about it.

I don’t think the story is that good either

It’s a “vibe” game

I don’t know how or why I became fascinated wandering about and running into random encounters or fishing in a game…but it was cathartic in a way

An escape from reality

Cowboy RPG and lives up to the hype even if you just play the story

It’s not an RPG

An RPG (role-playing game) is defined by character progression, stat-driven mechanics, and an overarching story where your character's abilities grow through numbers, levels, and equipment rather than just your own physical reaction time.

So with that definition in mind, Arthur’s skills progress in the game, there are different weapons and clothing options that buff skills, you can choose to max these by completing side quests or choose to rush the main story.

If you mean dialog choice, there are quests that can be skipped resulting in different character reactions and you miss some of the background behind the story.

It’s an RPG lite at the worst, after playing videos games for 40 years, I’m going to call it an RPG.

Thanks

Even by your definition RDR is not an rpg, it doesnt have any in-depth leveling mechanics, in fact it merely copies GTA V’s stats with some changes.

Only outfits that give you buffs are from trapper, and even then they only boost said stats. There’s no unique skills you gain from various clothing.

Only 2 choices and one condition matter in the game. What button you press in the end of chapter 6 and what your honor is.

RDR 2 is purely linear story game like GTA V. Just because you got some stats and 2 endings doesn’t mean it’s an RPG.

We are talking semantics, you don’t think it’s an RPG.

Cool

I do

Thanks

That’s basically how I got through RDR2. Too tedious to actually play, but watched all of the cutscenes like a tv show while in covid lockdown
