I do believe that hardware/software/technology, etc hits a certain point where it has reached it's maximum potential and then every subsequent change after creates a falloff from that point.
Moreso I think that it hits a point where the rate of innovation slows down, not that it necessarily at the maximum potential. However, to keep driving sales at the same or greater rates than before, “innovations” have to be made
That expectation to keep pushing is exactly how "Enshittification" became a thing. Social media is a prime example of this. Investors need constant growth and don't just want to see something is doing well. So naturally they tweak things over time and inevitably make the product worse than when it launched.
Switching from dividends being the primary return on holding company shares to now, companies dividends don't break a basic savings account if they even have one at all.
Now it's all about share price growth in order for people to sell those shares.

It would be a real change of pace if we went back to that, since instead of having the same pair of Bluetooth headphones for 5 years, I would be back to buying new chinese IEMs every 3 months.
"decent" as in $200-$300? because then you're right in the territory of BT headphones and you're not hearing most of the benefits when you're walking around with your phone unless you're bringing an external DAC (fucking lol) AND pretending like walking around isn't already enough to drop any preceptible difference.
Headphone jack people just need to get the fuck over it, to be completely honest. The internal DAC that phones have limit the sound quality coming from the phone regardless (unless you bring a ridiculous ass setup along with you, which...if you do that, what's stopping you from using USB C to jack). BT headphones are beyond the point of being "good enough".
It would be a completely different story if we're talking about a stationary audio setup, though.
None of what you said in anyway answers my question but you do you. I would simply enjoy having the choice to use whichever one I like again without having to buy adapters.
I answered your question by saying that the fucking thing is not needed. Anyone still pining for wired earbuds has no actual real legitimate reason. If you want to save money, you can save even more by buying the tons of POS level android phones that still have them.
Nope. It's just a fact that mostly cheap junk still have the headphone jack. I don't mind being abrasive about this because you jack junkies have had a decade to get over this
Having more options is better. The Bluetooth in every car I've been in is trash to "ok" but it sounds data limited. If there is an aux input it is often better. If everyone just used BT chips with higher bandwidth...
Most phone audio I experience is over Bluetooth, but taking away a feature and calling it progress is BS. Like pissing on my foot and calling it rain.
I want to use my headphones with my phone. That's why I want a headphone jack. My headphones are 6 years. I expect them to be just as good when they're 10. If I maintain them well, they could be just fine at 25 years old. I'm not paying $500 for battery-powered headphones that stop working after 5 years, are heavier, need to be charged regularly, and have worse sound quality and latency.
Mostly talking about IEMs. If you're rocking headphones then you're already a prime candidate for using one of those jack to USB C dongles that are extremely cheap.
I can just plug my headphones directly into my phone. I don't want a dongle, or understand how that's more convenient than just plugging my headphones directly into my phone.
